I am looking into getting a .22lr for rabbit and squirrel hunting. Also, I would like to use this to train with and shoot out to 100 yards.

What scope do y'all recommend? I am thinking a Mil/Mil scope would be awesome but is that overkill for a .22lr? Right now I am thinking a fixed 6 power SWFA mil/mil scope, but again it might be overkill.

Thanks for the help!

I think you're on the right track.

When I get my head above water, with projects, I'm going to play with a Mil/Mil on one of my .22lr and see how far I can push it. I'm thinking about a "long range" .22lr match. If I can get repeatable hits at 300 yards, I thought it would be fun.

I have already gone as far as 200 yards with a .22lr (two shots with irons).

I'm real happy with the Nikon 3x9 rimfire scope I put on my 39A. It has the BDC dots/donuts (and let's not get started bashing BDC, for once). Going on probably faulty memory, if I set the scope to 5 power, one of the BDC donuts is dead on for my yard corn feeder at 80 yards. That puts the coons in real trouble, now that holdover guesswork is no longer needed.

Yes, I could do all of that, and do it better, with an FFP mil/mil scope on my old 39A, but I think that's just a bit much for this specific application.

I have this one on my full size Ruger M77 .22LR. I sight it in at 50 yards and have adjustments in 25 yard increments out to 190 yards. I did change out the duplex reticle to a fine reticle for the .22.

Excellent set-up for a beginner/novice/expert to practice with for a larger caliber, and ammo is cheap. Plus, I pop hogs in the butt with it when I'm deer hunting to keep them away. Deer don't seem to pay it any attention.

I have a few of the Simmons 22 mags. Good for the money, work great for plinking and hunting.

If the rifle you select is capable of MOA accuracy, it's worth putting good glass on it. In my opinion AO is mandatory for the application. Go with the reticle style that trips your trigger...just don't go cheap.

Jason you must have eagle eyes, oh it would be nice to have young eyes again.

Target shooting at 100 with a 6x would be somewhat difficult IMHO.

I had a 22 with a Weaver Grand Slam 4-12 on it and that was a fantastic piece of glass for $199 and for a 22. I would highly recommend it if Natchez still has it on clearance for that price.

I have a Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50 on my CZ 452 .22. I put it on it out of curiosity...had the scope sitting in the gun safe...that was over two years ago. I love it! Also have a Zeiss Conquest 4-14x50 on my CZ 455 .17 and it's an awesome scope for it. Both have turrets which is really nice!

That's what my eye Doc said when he had me read the lines, after he figured out the formula for my correction. "Corrected, you can see like an eagle". I said, that's your job!

With good glass, it is very do-able. I load tested an AR-15 with an SS 1-6X a few days ago. I could see .22 bullet holes in white paper.

I prefer MOA for the finer adjustment available as I'm generally shooting much smaller targets and the drop can change quick.

I see 20/15 corrected and I feel like I could barely see them with the 12x weaver. I don't consider them easy to see with my SWFA 16x.

Really it's just a question of what the best tool for the job is. For a 22LR, I would think you'd be better served with something other than a fixed 6x, but that's JMHO. If you're going to try distance shooting with it, you'll need something that tracks good and an SWFA 6x might be the best choice.

With vision that good, I don't know why you can't see the holes. Was it clean white paper?

No it wasn't. Combo red/white targets mostly.

May take better glass and/ or more magnification to see in that type of field.

My favorite target is a big white paper with X made from a sharpie.

There is a Rimfire scope I read about on Rimfire Central a few years ago that gets good reviews. I bought one and haven't been disappointed. Clearidge Ultra RM 3-9x32. Mine has a fine duplex reticle but they are available with mil-dot.

You're probably right. And I'm not sure how much this matters, but I don't shoot with my prescription glasses on because I only have one pair of prescription sunglasses and I don't want to damage them. My vision isn't awful without them, but it's razor sharp with them. I assume it would help with the scope too? Would I need different parallax adjustments with and without prescription glasses?

Near sighted. Had great all around vision a decade ago, but 10 years spending 50 hours a week in front of a computer will do that to you.

I've had lots of customers shoot without their glasses then need to put them on to read a turret, but they were far sighted (+40 crowd). I'm near sighted, but am connected for distance.

In your case, if things are clear through the scope, then keep doing what you're doing. What ever I'm doing is working, I can see .22 holes in white paper, at 100 yards, and on 6X grin
