Remember to ALWAYS bring enough gun to take an animal cleanly. The older I've gotten the better I've gotten. I've started shooting smaller and faster but I have my own range out to 1k yds so I get plenty of trigger time. I would personally never let someone take an orxy with a 22-250 shooting a 55 gr bullet on my ranch It can be done I've seen a 220 swift do it but it leaves a wider margin of error for suffering that you don't want remember as a hunter there is an ethical code we all should follow

It was partially directed at you and 55 - 64 gr isn't much difference Your running about 3000 fps and about 1300 ftlbs at 100yds. I don't really care to debate but that's under gunned for an oryx. You might be an incredible shot but every hunter will miss or make a marginal shot in his lifetime at least once and seeing an animal mamed running off only to know he is gonna suffer a long death is a bad feeling.
And I'm guessing it was a win Super x. That's not even a bonded bullet. Look on the box it's made for thin skinned cxp1-cxp2 game NOT oryx

I ain't trying pick on ya chit just want you to have as much knowledge and to help ya avoid feeling like crap if you truly respect the game u hunt which I hope you do. You'll understand where I'm coming from. I'm glad to see you enthusiastic about hunting and being a part of it all but I'm not even close to being a genius when it comes to all this still learning all the time.

For whitetail that's a very popular bullet. Nothing wrong With it I'm more partial to the federal premium game king but that 64 gr ain't bad at all. Anything thin skinned with in a reasonable distance. Wt, axis, fallow, blk buck. Yotes. Etc

I might have missed it but everybody left out the little big brother to the 308. Look at a 7mm-08, it would be perfect for you. I has less recoil than a 308 and only a little more than a 243. ( it is somewhere in the 15 ft lb range) has a higher sectional than a 308. I have seen it destroy Moose, Elk Caribou, Oryx, black bear, and prety much every other animal that walks north america. Heck even a lot of African game.\ Many loads are available,if you reload, it is very customize-able. My wife shoots one, and my kids, once they are big enough, will be shooting one as well. In addition it is available in several youth packages at reasonable costs. Once you outgrow the stock, just purchase a new stock for 120 bucks and you can continue to hunt for the rest of your life. Best rifle caliber i have found for smaller framed people. But that is my 2 cents

Pulling 67lb Shooting a .30-06 all day long 4.0 GPA And still don't have a .270 I don't know why I'm resurrecting this particular thread but my typos were baaaad Just a little advice - if you just want to get to 70 lbs to say you did, that's fine. However, don't get caught up in the need to be in the "big boys club". A 60-65 lb draw weight is more than enough to kill anything you want to kill, and over time you'll be glad you gave your muscles and joints a little bit of a break on each pull. My next bow will probably be a 60 or 65.
