would this be worth doing on a large section of pipeline? I was thinking it would kill off more of the stuff the deer dont eat like this thick stalky stuff while keeping in the softer grass deer will eat or is this a waste of time.
I just have this huge section of clean open pipeline surrounded by thick pine woods and trying to figure out how to make it better in ways i can afford

It will kill the stuff deer eat like the forbs. Deer only eat about 10% grass. Grass doesn't really have any nutritious value.
I'd just straight fertilize it.

Exactly what HCH had to say. If the deer look like they are eating the grass it is because they have their snouts down in it trying to get to the small native clovers and forbs.
If you want to do the ROW a solid; shred it, then disk it so that the soil is cut, and then apply 13-13-13 at about 300 lbs an acre. Weed & Feed will turn it into a parking lot as far as the wildlife is concerned.

i dont know if you guys have ever done this but when you have a problem and your mind jumps to a bunch of ways to solve the problem, sometimes you come up with gold and its easy but then there are those other times where instead of gold you make this complicated unattainable solution that you know isnt going to work, so you rework it and add to it only making it worse to the point you have driven yourself crazy trying to figure this problem out. than you break down and finally ask your buddy and they give you the most basic, simplest, easiest completely doable solution that is perfect and your mind is blown? that is what just happened here. im honestly not being sarcastic, i have no idea why i wanted to over complicate this but thank yall for the advice that is the perfect idea thats what i will be doing this year not sure if i can disc the whole pipeline but i can spread some triple 13

Disc as much as you can and try to lay as much clover and oats seed as you can.
