I have been getting into knife making and I know there are a lot of fellers on here that partake in the same hobby. Which is your favorite online store for stock and scale material? I think I've started with O1 tool steel since it is more forgiving on the quench. Also, is there a physical location in North DFW that sells materials? Any input or advice would be appreciated as I am just starting out.

There are at least a dozen suppliers, and every maker has his (or her) favorites.

Jantz Supply is in Davis,OK, and might be worth a drive if you're up that way. They have a fairly comprehensive assortment, but their prices are average to high. Good service on the phone.

Texas Knifemaker Supply is in Houston. Also fairly comprehensive.

I really like USA Knifemaker for hardware and synthetic handle materials.

Pop's knife supply has a bad website, but are some of the most down to earth folks in the business. If you want to call and ask a question, Pop's is the place. Their prices are good also.

Trugrit is where I typically buy many of my belts. They also have an assortment of handle material, steel, and pin stock.

Supergrit is where I buy the rest of my belts, and my Rhynowet sandpaper.

You have SB Specialty Metals in Arlington that carries a variety of stainless steels. They have more than they show on their website.

NJ Steel Baron is another good steel source.

What I find myself doing is rotating around between several suppliers based on who has what in stock.

I didn't mention K and G, Sheffield, Alpha, Kelly Cupples, and quite a few others.

That's the same list for me.

Yup, Mr. Fry nailed it.

I'll add that when it comes to outsourcing heat treat I like Peter's Heat Treat. They do a great job and have a reasonably fast turn around.

I seldom use anything but wood for handles and buy craft wood from Woodcraft. Of course, you have to be there to pick it out to assure that you get what you like and that it isn't warped.

I use Norton Blaze belts that I get from Jantz.

EBay is where I get about 99% of supplies.
