Delivering some deer up North early this morning and saw a Mountian Lion crawl over a game fence like it was no big deal. He even perched on top for a minute. Incredible agility and awesome tail! First time I have personally seen one, it was incredible! This was on Hwy 83 North of 41 and Garvin's store. Anybody else spotted any in that area before?

Had a lease off 83 between 41 and I-10 years ago. One of the guys on the lease saw one walk between his blind and feeder. I asked him why he didn't shoot it and he said he was stunned in disbelief and by the time he got his wits about him, it was gone.

Wish I could see that. Sounds like an awesome experience. Thought I did in Coleman/Runnels County back in the late '80s, but it was so fast that I couldn't be sure. And lots of time since then.
And delivering deer? Like to the processor?

My wifes uncle was a biologist with TPWD for 30 years and his specialty was Mountain Lions. The knowledge he has about these animals is astounding. I love sitting around the fire and listening to his stories about them.

I bet there are more around than most would believe, had never thought about one going over high fence but as strong and agile as they are I bet that would ne no problem.

That's awesome.
We hunt there and have had family ranching in that area for a very long time.
They are out there. You don't see them often, but they're definitely out there.
I would be torn about shooting one if I saw it, but I think if I did not shoot it the ghosts of all my ranching relatives would come and get me.

How far north of Garvin Store? Lions frequent that area fairly often as there is an abundance of game and more that adequate cover. Near the West Kerr Ranch? Adios, Gary

Even though I admire this awesome cat as the apex predator in our great state and there is not a whole lot of them, I would shoot one in a heartbeat where I am at for there is to much livestock and not enough deer for one of those bad boys and us hunters. Now if I lived in the hill country where the deer are plentiful and no livestock consideration, I would let it go unless it was a huge old trophy cat

My buddy hunts right on the Mason/Llano county line and he has seen a nice one out there. Beautiful country for one to run around in. My current place is on the Gillespie/Llano County line west of Enchanted Rock. Horribly overpopulated with deer. They had a big cat that stuck around for a couple weeks a few years back. Lot of people saw it, and then it vanished. Either moved on or made someone with a gun nervous. They run sheep out there, so I'm sure a big cat could pretty quickly wear its welcome thin.

Adios, Gary Just north of there, maybe 2-3 miles. Pretty sure around the Las Catarinas ranch. Looked when we came back hoping it hung up in the fence, but yeah right. Lol it was smooth moving getting up that fence. It was awesome to see, but certainly wouldn't have complained if i could have taken it out and looked at it in my living room every day.

Seen one shortly after my grandfather killed it. Seen another one that attacked my great grandfather and was made into a throw rug. Spent countless hours and days out in West Texas and never seen one. Then my wife saw one as she was coming back from my daughter's cross country meet just outside of Waco. I was still at the dang meet.

Back in the 90's in CA, there was a group of people working at the salt flats in the SF Bay area that scared one out of a fenced area. It was a six foot cyclone fence with another foot and a half of barbed wire above it. The news report said that the cat jumped the fence clean. It never touched it!!!!!

Lion was headed west. Lions are just like all felines, they have that "quick twitch" muscling that will allow them to easily clear a 10 ft. fence. I have footage of a lion that jumped from one tree and climbed another nearby. This is why some dogs have trouble locating a lion that is treed...it leaps so high that there is not scent along the truck as a coon or other climbing animal would leave. Thanks again, TenTenWhitetails. Adios, Gary

I shot behind one in Nevada while hunting mule deer years ago to let him know I wasn't on the menu. He was on his belly watching me and I swear he jumped 6-8 ft straight up.

I would definitely need a change of britches if I saw one around here. I have heard rumors of them in Collin county and more frequent west of Ft worth. My grandpa swears on his life about black panther on his land on the Louisiana/Texas line

Have you ever noticed how many people see black panthers, but not a single one has ever been found dead, on game camera or shot by a hunter? Going back forever?

I live in far N.Dallas close to Plano. One of my wife's friend whose house backs up to a small creek with houses on both sides swear she has seen a mountain lion more than once roaming the creek and knows it is not a Bobcat. I think way to many

Yep no such creature as a Black Panther as mentioned never in the history of man has there been a picture or a kill or one hit by a car. There is one sure fire method to know if there is such a creature as a black panther or Sasquatch ...... look in a Cajun Cookbook. no recipes means it does not exist.

There actually are black panthers. They're the melanic jaguars. There is no melanic phase of a cougar, which may be what you're thinking of, but jaguars are in the panthera genus and do exist as a black species. As do leopards, also a member of panthera. There are no black panthers wild in Texas. There have never been outside of a zoo.

One of the reasons it's so difficult to rely on personal witnesses is that so many see what they want to see. With zero, never ever happened, black panthers ever being found alive or dead, you know that people who claim to have seen one are either suffering from seeing what they want to see, or just dishonest. I tend to believe they believe in black panthers being out there, just like some believe Bigfoot is out there, and anything that they can use to support that belief clouds their judgement.

Ive seen one outside of Perrin one day while I was out checking wells. I rounded a corner and it was in the dirt road. In a single leap it jumped nearly straight up an 8 foot embankment and was gone in a flash.

Someone recently told me there is "a pair of mtn lions" in Springtown and to keep an eye on my dogs. Coming from PA where people have claimed to see them for decades but nobody ever has any proof, I was immediately skeptical. But doing some research I guess there have been confirmed sightings in Parker county before. Living in Texas has an adjustment, lots of new critters here to learn about .

Yes I am referring to cougar/ catamount/puma/mountain lion/panther and I knew there were malaniistic jaguars butI have never heard a Jaguar called a panther in the US.

Headed down 83 today. I guess that I should haul old Pearl and see if she can rig on it when I get close to Garvin Store. LOL, she's cold nosed but that may be too much to ask. Adios, Gary

Verified daylight lion sighting by our land owner in western Llano co about a month ago. No livestock problems yet. Hope it has a taste for pigs though.
Another seen by my cousin between Voca and Brady a couple months ago. She said this one was dead on the road.
I've yet to see one, but have found tracks in the creek bottom. They're out there, but the territories are so huge it's a low-% deal.

I think people believe they are black because they see them at dusk or later
