Fellas, I ain't much of an authority, and I have no training, but I can shoot straight and I would walk through the fires of hell on Sunday for my kids. If all my 950 kids got between them and a bad guy, is me, well the bad guy is in for a fight.
Carry on. Nuff said.....and the single greatest protection for those kids is the fact that the bad guys know guns could (and most likely are) there in the school....no longer a gun free zone.......no longer as attractive a target...... Exactly. The pathetic cowards that perpetrate these school shootings are counting on it being a " gun free " zone. I personally believe that all schools should have 2-3 LEO's on site during all school hours. Carve out whatever needs to be carved out of the budget to pay for it, and these school shootings will likely stop. Barring that, you bet I would be willing to take the chance on an armed, or preferably several armed teachers, coaches or principles on site at the moment of attack, rather than give these cowards the ability to kill and maim until the cavalry shows up and stops the threat. So why should we just settle for using teachers as part time security guards rather than hire full time properly trained LEO? I guess that is my biggest problem. I see using teachers as a cheap compromise versus paying up and allocating the proper resources to combat this problem if it requires such a solution. Just because schools are 'gun free zones' doesn't necessarily mean there aren't any guns present on the campus either. Don't most Public ISDs have their own police departments? Maybe we are just wasteful with our resources and spend them on massively expensive athletic stadiums vs adequate protection for our kids. Think about this McKinney ISD just spend close to $63 Million on a football stadium. They have 29 campuses including elementary through high school. Instead of wasting that money on something un-necessary like the stadium they could have paid for 3 full time LEO to be stationed at each school $75k/year each for the next 10 years. 100% agree. This is Texas and bashing high school football is akin to communism but it's ridiculous the money we spend on sports but can't figure out how to pay for protecting our most precious asset.

It only makes sense to remove the "Soft Target" label from the schools.
I have seen stories on the news (not Facebook) of schools asking police officers not to drop their kids off in uniform with their duty weapons as it might scare or otherwise harm the school children.

Texas public schools don't drug test. If teacher passed a drug test I wouldn't have an issue with them carrying. I have always found it funny that they don't take a drug test. My wife teaches 1st grade and I have been telling her for years that she should start using cocaine. Excellent advise..........

I believe that the very idea that there are armed teachers on the campus will make the sick cowards who do these things give it a second thought before trying for their "15 minutes of fame." While full time, on site protection specialists is the ultimate solution, in the interim, why not pay the willing teachers to take the concealed carry course and then have the local police or sheriff's personnel give them some additional training on how to handle the threats and situations they may face? Taking all the "gun free zone" signs down is the immediate first step. Give the signs to Liberal parents to plant in their front yards or plaster on the front and back doors of their homes.

Yes teachers should be trained and armed, today IMO. Our children are more important than anything else in this life. I do know that there are many teachers that hate guns and will never agree, period. When something bad happens, when there is violence who gets called? Trained adults, that love kids, with guns. This is going to go round and round.

Not at school yet, however, our district has approved moving towards this with a number of school personnel. In discussions, there will be a vetting process, and training before it will be implemented.

For me personally, what I like the most about people being allowed to carry in schools is that the bad guys don't know who is or isn't carrying....but that most likely someone is, making schools a much less attractive target for their 5 minutes of fame.....makes our kids more safe.

My wife teaches but I would not want her carrying. She simply is not capable and probably 80%+ of the other teachers aren't as well. IMO the threat of a student getting a weapon from a teacher and using it is much higher than an AS situation, especially in Texas.

Not all teachers are capable of being the one who would save the day. The ones who could won't be allowed to and the ones who wanna think they could but can't would do more damage than good.

As long as they don't have a criminal record which prohibits them, then I am good with it.
I think they need to do some training on the range like police officers do. Like police officers do? From what I hear from officers, people that have trained officers they are not required to do much shooting and the ones that they have seen shoot are pretty bad. I would hope they would be better trained shooters then police officers. This. Every officer I have ever been next to on a line was not very good. And that comes from a guy who is nothing to write home about.

I remember reading a sign in front of the school in Lohn that said they were prepared to do anything to protect the kids. In rural area that are a ways from police I wouldn't be surprised to find that several adults were armed.
