Nice little forum I found this morning!
I consider myself an intermediate turkey hunter, with A LOT still to learn. I've watched many videos where it's early in the morning,(just before daylight), where you hear a tom gobble off in the distance. The person in the video says something like "he's on the ground" and will proceed to call.

My question is, how does someone know if the tom is gobbling on the ground or 20 feet up in a tree especially if you can't see the bird, or if you don't hear wings beating against limbs? I realize that there are times you can hear the tom's voice "moving" but the videos don't indicate that, so I was wondering.
Thanks,

Video editing, often times the hunter uses a owl hooter to locate the bird on roost before daylight. Then after first light they call and the bird responds from a different location from where he was in the darkness, so they know he is on the ground now and moving.

Born to hunt and fish.
