All I can tell you is that I settled on a Grendel for my all around Texas hunting rig, and I couldn't be happier with it. Hell of a round, especially in an AR-15. It'll flat put down a whitetail or pig. And accurate? Oh my. Such an easy round to shoot.

If you specifically want the Grendel, AR15 to save weight....intended use is most important. P_10

I'm on my third Grendel and I'm regretting not building an AR10. Load development is a PITA for the Grendel compared to a .308. The Grendel is a light, compact rig compared to an AR10, but those are getting lighter and lighter. Look at the DPMS G2. My next AR hunting rifle will be chambered in .308.
Haha yea I polished that thing for hours.

The Hornady match ammo has always been so good and relatively inexpensive for me that I've never considered it. Of course, you can't count on one factory load to perform, so it is quite a factor. My rifle was built for that round.

.308, hands down. You can build one fairly light.

I'll go out on a limb here and suggest a Kel-Tec RFB 18". It's light-weight, accurate, and low-recoil. It shoots the popular .308 cartridge with about 1.5 MOA accuracy with the proper load.

Why build a 6.5 Grendel in an AR10? It's heavy and you don't need the OAL for an AR10. My AR15 6.5 Grendel is awesome and I love shooting it suppressed. If you wanted a 6.5 in an AR10, then you should go 6.5 Creedmoor.
It is far more important to be able to hit the target than it is to haggle over who makes a weapon or who pulls a trigger.

.308, hands down. You can build one fairly light. With the AR-10 you could add uppers in 6.5 Creedmoor, 7mm08. 243.......

Another option, OP, if you want a touch of awesomeness would be .338 Federal (if you don't need too much distance).

AR10 for sure. I currently have one built in 7-08 and fully loaded is just over 10 pounds. If I could only build one it would be in 6.5 creedmoor. I have a tack driving bolt action in 6.5 so I wanted a 7-08 as well an AR10 so I killed 2 birds with one stone.

I'm also considering a fast twist 22-250 or 220 swift to be different.

6.5CM in AR10 is where its at. Brass is trash for reloading but it packs a punch and flat.
Now if you walking a mile or so at night then maybe an ar15 platform

Pick your bullet and your purpose then run the numbers to see.
I am going 6.5 Grendel because I have an extra upper and I just need to rebarrel and go.

The velocity is what i would expect. 2500 fps with a 123 bullet with a great BC is about as good as it gets from an AR15 platform.
