Please sign the petition on the other thread! More bad news on the hog poisoning program. A veterinarian with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries who is a leading member of the states Feral HOG Task Force has advised against the use of Warfarin. Further, the Kaput feeders used for this have an 8 -10 lb. lid, while a raccoon was observed lifting a 23 lb. lid. Recipe for disaster. Playing with fire. http://www.theadvocate.com/baton_rouge/s...d96575ad4c.html

Yes, the delivery system (hopper) is equally flawed as the bait. While there are several designs...ALL work on the 'root open' principle. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KpafwuZENcYWhile this 'might' work for certain folks under certain conditions, I can tell you it would be a dismal failure in the area where I live. Hogs simply don't stay around long enough to 'condition' them to using the apparatus AND most farmers/ranchers here would not commit the time and effort necessary to check it daily, bait it, monitor a camera, etc.... This entire concept (at present) is geared at making money (selling the products) not about effectively eliminating hogs. Good grief....money is being wasted on studies to come up with the best hopper. One idea has been a solar powered hopper that gives an electric shock to anything touching it...UNLESS it first elicits a 'grunt' (that the hopper recognizes). Please...........! I don't know what THE answer is....but I know THIS isn't it.

My first thought is that pigs lay in water during the heat, what happens when they start dying in stock tanks and water ways.

I have sending the info everywhere I can think of. I got several friends and family to sign the petition. It is just stupid to put a poison like this out there. If nothing else, some nut will find it and it won't be good. Find another way!

That is sad. Maybe they look at it as a political statement, but this is an issue that affects all of their members that are involved with hog hunting in all its forms.
Our response should not be in the form of an attack on the state, rather the assimilation of an organized response to make our voice heard in order for there to be dialogue.

They have a few large sponsors I'm sure they are appealing too. That's a for-profit board for sure, not that I'm against that but when it limits freedom of speech it's wrong...

I'm going to bring up something that I'm surprised no one has yet.2 weeks ago the local game warden showed me a photo from one of his game cams. It was in Titus county.what do you know a black bear.I believe a bear can get into anything a hog can.if I'm not wrong they eat the same kind of food. I am also led to believe they are part of the same family.Texas parks and wildlife has listed them under a protected species. So what do you think? If it kills a hog will it kill the bears? Numerous photos have also come out of red river county.so I guess they are going to give the OK to kill them off too.

Having been on Coumadin for a period of time to dissolve a DVT I seriously doubt that the possible side effects are fully known. While taking Coumadin, I had to have blood tests several times a week because my INR would not stabilize to a safe rate. Coumadin absorption rates in humans are apparently affected by a variety of foods and medications. Eating leafy green vegetables that have vitamin K can cause dangerously high INR rates which can lead to internal bleeding. Antibiotics also effect INR rates. This is certainly not an exact science and requires close monitoring by medical professionals. Leaving decisions in the hands of individual property owners and licensed applicators is a bad idea.
All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. Edmund Burke

from the news "... The pesticide's manufacturer, Scimetrics Ltd. Corp., assures the pesticide is safe for humans and wildlife just not for feral pigs...."
Yaaaah, RIGHT...... you want me to believe that?

I don't support the poison even if it is 100% safe for everything but the hogs.
Start to feel sorry for the pigs.

Well I guess I will be the odd man out here. As a land owner I am feed up with the hogs and the turn up land they leave behind. I will be putting it out as soon as it is available. IF it works I will keep using it as needed.

IF it works I will keep using it as needed. Your not the odd man. My property is not really big enough to warrant the cost, but I won't be upset if my larger neighbors do. I would bet good money that the WMA that is close will be using this method to knock them down. I'm sure this won't eliminate them, but I look forward to the day when I see mainly deer with just the occasional hog instead of the other way around. BTW. I don't think you are going to be able to put this out yourself. Sounds like you will need to hire a person licenced by the state to properly administer this...as it should be.

It does sound odd to me. No cercerns for human or other animal consuming this poison? I suppose you don't take pesticide company claim on face value.
slow death by internal bleeding...Ouch...

I joined that forum awhile back. There must be some really secret stuff in those classifieds. I guess its because I didn't buy the sticker! There must be a lot of people in the Texas government that will profit from the wildlife poisoning program.

I will count on support from animal rights group as well. I am siding with them on this topic.
