Here are some pics at distances of 50, 100, and 150 yards away. These are set at the optical magnification only.

50 Yards no zoom

100 yards no zoom

150 yards no zoom

How is the sight picture through the near eye display (viewing objective) ?

Recorded images don't usually provide a full story on resolution and what the user sees which is why I ask.

Do you happen to know the resolution and size of the viewing screen .

Thanks for sharing

Is my logic correct here when comparing the XQ50 384 and XP50 640 Trail resolutions at different magnification levels?

XP50
1.6x - 640x480
3.2x - 320x240
6.4x - 160x120
12.8x - 80x60

XQ50
2.7x - 384x288
5.4x - 192x144
10.8x - 96x72

So basically, once you zoom one step on the 640, the 388 core starts be near equal in resolution. If I need 3x to 6x for most of my shots, is there are reason to go with the XP? Granted I realize the base mag will be cleaner in the XP, but once I start stepping up in the PIP function, its really a wash between the two?

True, however the XP50 looks like it has more mag than 1.6x. The problem is going to be field of view as well. Depends on if you are hunting hogs or coyotes. If you need the extra mag than get a scope that has 2.5-3x optical mag. From all the thermal scopes I have used I can tell you there is no standard for magnification. Some say it's higher mag and some have a lower magnification. Some scopes that say its a 3x optical compare to a 1.5 or 2x. My best advice is try before you buy. I wish someone had a lineup of scopes and did a test on their magnification.

Roger that. I just pre-ordered the XQ50 yesterday. I have LD38s I use for scanning along with a Gen 3 Simrad clip on. and I'm typically using 5-6x on coyotes and my ranges are typically 100-200 and occasionally 300. Liked the LD38 so much I had to get a scope too. Based on my needs and the resolution scenario above and at the mag level I will need, I decided to save $1000 vs getting the XP.

Pulsar does claim their mag levels are true where others would typically round up from 2.7x and call it a 3x, but who knows.

If my math is right, here would be the resolution comparison with the XP on 2.7 and 5.4x as a direct comparison to the XQ numbers.

XQ50
2.7x - 384x288
5.4x - 192x144

XP50
2.7x - 420x312
5.4x - 210x157.5

So the XP does still carry a bit of an advantage for resolution and that advantage would probably be less noticeable on the higher ends of the available magnification that both scopes offer.

I'm pretty pumped for these. The onboard recording is going to be awesome and because it's Pulsar you know everything will actually work.

They're taking pre-orders now. Supposedly late March-mid April til we start seeing it in peoples hands. Price is right for sure.

If anyone has any questions on these units, you're more than welcome to PM me. I'm going to Pulsar headquarters maybe as soon as next week and will have an opportunity to spend some time with them. The guys at Pulsar are also supposed to bring up a couple rifles rigged with Trails to do a hunt sometime in March.
