No this is not one of those threads.

I just wanted to point out that the Creedmoor has replaced the 7-08 as THF's collective "best thing since sliced bread". Obviously both are put to use and do their jobs quite adequately but I have noticed the Creedmoor being mentioned more than the 7-08 in recent times.

It's one of those "when you haven't told anyone you shoot a 6.5CM in 5 minutes" kinds of deals.

What is the reason for this? Glorification of long range shooting (which I'm very cool with but it has been put on a pedestal in the last few years)? Not wanting to get a "normal" caliber such as the 270, 308, 30-06?

Hold your horses. The Fireman will be along shortly -- he loves the 7-08. Maybe more than the 6.5 CM

Its a good caliber. In the end your not going to do something with one you couldn't do with the other.

Since when? Sure the 6.5 is the new kid on the block and it seems like "everyone is doing it". But there will come another sweetheart in the future and the 6.5 will be talked about like the 7mm08 as in remember when? They will more than likely both hang around for quite sometime.

I think most of the recent discussions have led to the 6.5 recommendation due to the individual wanting factory loaded ammunition vs. loading themselves which has a lean to the 6.5. Both are great calibers, two of my favorites. You can't go wrong either way.

When ever factory .260 match ammo gets cheaper and more plentiful.

My issue with 7mm-08 is that it gets no love from manufacturers lately...

Ammo manufacturers or rifle manufacturers? It's pretty well established in rifles but I think that CM has had many more factory loads released for it in the last 2 years.

I would say both. Rifle manufactures are not putting in the high profile new rifles. Rpr didn't, new Remington's didn't

6.5 creed is here to stay. Even the big boys at Nammo decided to put it in their lapua line with a small primer. Couple that with the fact hornady ammo is cheap, easy to find and fantastic, and for the non reloader it's a better choice. For the reloader, the selection of bullets and the fact that it's not finicky at all (the 7-08 can be) it's just a easy choice for most. I'm a fan of 7-08, mainly because I like 7's so I'm not knocking it. But give me a 7 creed and I'd take it any day over a 7-08. I personally run a 6 creed, but I think simple case geometry makes it a better platform to build on. Now don't get me wrong, there isn't a deer or pig in the state that could tell the difference between the two with proper shot placement.

I've owned a 7-08 and really like the cartridge, I gave it to my nephew, and I own two 6.5CMs. Again the 7-08 was a really nice rifle and performed well but the 6.5s I have a just more accurate. They were much easier to find a good load for and they are just a lot more consistent.
