Expect them to feed you plenty of beers to loosen your purse strings...

Expect them to feed you plenty of beers to loosen your purse strings... Ding ding ding. Winner chicken dinner. If you got a couple of hundred dollars burning a hole in your pocket it's a good time with hunting buddies. Been 20 years since I've been to one. They raised funds to buy wetlands way back then. Im my opinion a good cause.

Good cause, but the pressure will be on. If you don't drop a pretty good wad you will look like a skinflint.

Go and enjoy, buy some raffles but keep your head down and don't scratch it during any live auction,

u usually bidding against their own house watch it went one time, and the dude I was bidding against won the bid after a bidding war. when I went to the bathroom, a DU manager walked to me and asked me if I want the item since the last dude backed out due to no funds or something I said, no thanks, but I ll buy it for half of the last bid

I've seen ridiculously good deals on auction items two years in a row at the DU events around us. Some things went for more than they should but for the most part the auction and silent auction items went for well under retail.

Some things went for more than they should but for the most part the auction and silent auction items went for well under retail. Must depend on where you are. The two I attend are just the opposite. Stuff sells for multiples of what you can buy it for. Also, the bird hunts and safaris sold are just traps to get you to do the hunt. No travel costs, no shells included for the bird hunts, one or two animals on the safari, just for one hunter, etc. The idea is to get you to bring buddies and also to upgrade for more $$ once you are there.

Go, enjoy, have fun. If funds allow, participate as much as you can. Yes, it can be expensive. But spending a couple hundred dollars to help habitat for something we all love so much is a cheap investment.

I went to the Hunt County banquet Friday. The live auction didn't raise as much money as it usually does. Things went for pretty reasonable prices. I had a great time. Even won a kimber micro 9mm that I gave to my wife.

Any ideas on what I can expect? It's fun. You will be offered all the free beer you can consume, along with a steak dinner. Leave your cc at home and decide how much cash your willing to spend on the raffles/auctions. Put that amount in your pocket and go. The DU banquet at Myers Park a few years ago, had a silver lab pup on the auction block. 2 fella's duked it out big time. Pup went for IIRC 4K. Guy who won wound up giving it to a youngin.
