I'm looking for a strong scope that will hold zero while its riding in the truck. I have some $100 bills set aside but I'm getting the itch to upgrade from these Simmons that came on these guns I bought. They are all older Simmons whitetail classic 6-20x50 scopes and I'm wantin something better. I've had some weavers before but never the tactical series or the extreme series. A buddy wants to sell me his weaver extreme classic 6-24x50 30mm tube. Is this scope any better than theses Simmons that came on these guns? Going on a Remington 700 varmint 22-250 and a ruger m77 mk II target 6.5 creedmoor. I've got bout $500 set aside at the moment and he wants $250.

You can get that scope for $300 new from Natchez Shooters Supply which always has closeout deals on Weavers. I have an extreme. It's a decent scope for $300. Never had a Simmons so I can't compare. You might want to consider their Tactical Series if you want durability. It's going to be several steps above the Extreme. Same with the Super Slam. https://www.natchezss.com/optics/rifle-s...osition&p=1

I got a Weaver Grand Slam for $200 from Natchez that was fantastic. Best glass in the price range, bar none. Held zero just fine. I traded it in on an SWFA scope when I went back to a long range setup with exposed turrets, but I'd get one again in a heartbeat for a deer rifle or similar.
As scott said, Natchez has the best prices on them and I wouldn't save $50 to go used if it was me. But if it's a buddy of yours and you know it's a good scope and it's in mint condition, then I guess there's no harm.

It is definitely a step up from your Simmons.

Most of the time when scopes change their zero, it has to do with the rings and bases. If you are using the cheap Leupold bases with the rear windage screws (see picture below), this type of set up is not very durable. The rear screws hold onto the "wing" part of the rings, and can easily shift. You see these type of rings on every gun counter, and are the cheapest and crappiest way to hold a scope in place. If you have these rings/bases, I would change this out first. I have seen the "wings" get sheered off and damaged from recoil alone. I'm not a fan of these type of mounts. IMO, the Weaver and Simmons are about equal when comparing lower end scopes. I have a Simmons Aetec that I bought as my first scope, and it has performed well beyond what I expected.

I've got the Leupold on two rifles, one for over 20 years(.270) and have never had an issue.

I'm just tired of skimping on optics and trying to get away from that. I could prob have $1000 by the end of the month but I need 2 scopes and want a 30mm tube and 50mm obj and real tough

Do you want the strongest scope made ? Its only a fixed 4 power built to withstand a 12 ft fall onto to concrete with a 8 lb rifle on top of it,,,, can you live with that ???
Or o can tell the strongest variable to 24 power but you would laugh me off this form ,,,so i will tell 2 other variables that are strong,,,, US optics and the night force !
Etched glass is first and foremost, a must have !
So if you want the strongest 24 power variable with in your price range you will have to PM me !
