Is it just me or have they moved significantly west of Katy with all of the building. I remember having a lease in Waller where limits were the rule rather than the exception. Opening day this year, 30 hunters had 3 birds by noon.

Has the growth of Houston brought about a change in migratory patterns pushing the doves further west?

Discuss.

On another note, every year I have seen an increase in the number of white wings. * years ago I would be lucky to get 2 in a limit, now I am lucky to get 2 mourning dove in a limit.

Not sure what direction (but I have pretty good idea) them dove do when they get south of I-20 but up here in north Tx the patterns have gone West. Hamilton Tx once billed itself as the "dove capital of Tx". They need a new billing! They said draw a line from Wichita Fall to Laredo...50 miles east or west of that line was the primary flyway for dove in Tx. Its all changed to the west now. Vernon to Brady....then Brady to somewhere lol is the new flyway.

So in short, your mournings have moved west and the whitewings have moved north. Are you an intolerant republican towards our southern whitewings lol?

Lol, I can not speak for the dove migration.... but I can say that this was my first ever season of dove hunting and duck hunting, and that I did attempt to dove hunt in waller quite a few times and shot only a hand full of times.

I dont think I killed a single bird in 3 or 4 trips to Waller this year, brookshire was ok, though the one late season trip we had in sealy there were hundreds of doves.

X2
in the late 80's through early 90's we hunted just a few miles south of ranger and would always be near the bag limit. by mid 90's it was tough to get half a doz birds. last year i tried a day lease about 8-9mi southeast of jacksboro... shot 4 times between sunrise and noon.
