Planning to hunt some public land in the mountain west next year. What is the best option for a map chip which clearly designates public, private, BLM, etc? Which offers the most reliable info and intuitive usability? I've seen several options out there, looking for real-life experiences.
Recommendations for the actual hand-held GPS are welcome as well. Don't need a Cadillac, just something that will keep me from trespassing.
Many thanks,

Onxmaps.
Chip or app.(app you can cache the maps in your phone)
Stand alone gps Garmin 64st. Or 600 Montana if you want bigger screen.
My backcountry set up is delome/Garmin Inreach and iPhone with onxmaps app. I have a dark energy power bank and get 6 days worth of charges with it.

I picked up the Garmin Etrex touch 25 while on the Colorado group hunt in 2015. It worked well for what we needed it for. I cant remember if I picked up the Onxmaps chip or the Garmin chip for it, but it showed public vs. private land and had some of the main trails as well.

OnX Maps are definitely the way to go. I like the chip a lot better than the app. Doesn't seem like the app quite has all the kinks worked out of it yet.
I use a Garmin handheld, Oregon 350, maybe? For hunting and keeping track of public vs private, really any GPS with a touch screen that can accept the chip should be fine.

Public land is pretty well marked with paint & the No Trespassing signs by the surrounding land owners... Used my Topo USA for scouting at home WMA land, write down areas looked good for hunting, wrote down cordanance... Down loaded area to copier for a map... Then wrote findings, down on note pad using cordanance from GPS...

Onx chip will also show landowner names if you buy that particular chip.

I used an onx maps chip in my truck Garmn GPS. Worked great!!! Have not done the app thing yet but may do it for my next hunt.
