Time for new shoes on my bronco ii that lives on the lease. Trying to go cheap so I stumbled across Tire Recappers. I can get retread mud tires for $68 or $74 with free shipping. The price is right and they look good, but still unsure.

Anyone used them? Will they hold up to the rugged, rocky roads and trials that they'll see constantly? This vehicle never sees pavement and never exceeds 25-30mph.

I don't think I would want to drive them on the highway but..... for off road use I've thought about it myself.

I agree^^....If it lives at the lease and will be off roading pretty much everytime in use with little to no hwy use, I would totally buy those recappers.

I think Treadwright's process yields a better tire, but for my size, 235 75r 15, they only have an all terrain that looks like a street tire. Really looking for something aggressive.

My only concern is whether the retread tires are tough enough for the terrain. From camp to my hunting area is a 5 mile drive one way down rocky rough roads and trials, up and down hills, sometimes crawling slowly in 4low. Just don't want the rocks to beat them up so much that the tread separates. I was hoping someone has tried them.

I buy them for my Blazer that sits on the lease. Get home and fill them with foam and you're good to go!

Are you talking about tire slime type product or something else?

Nothing wrong with recaps. We put some on the back, not on steer wheels, of the feed trucks mudding in and out to feed cows and they work/hold up fine. Have bale beds on and we will put 2 round bales on the back and run down the highway at 70mph, then go thru mud and bounce thru pastures. They seem to hold up better than new mud tires.
You only have one way to find out if they will work for you.

Ordered a pair. They look good. Think I'll get the other two. I don't think I'd put them on the road but deer lease only should work.

FYI, look at the weight it took to balance one of them! I guess that's what happens when you retread a Chinese tire.

Have some load range E 285/75/16 from treadwright on my 3/4 ton 4x4 hunting rig out in west tx. Been on for 5+ years without and issue. I drive it anywhere. Why even bother to balance for lease. I rarely get over 20 mph

Good point on the balancing. The guy at firestone just did it when mounting them. Maybe I can save a few bucks next time but doesn't hurt to balance them.

Update. I bought 2 more retreads and these were on BFG casings, which is probably better than the cheap Chinese casing used for the first two. However, one tire needed 24oz of weight so It wasn't balanced! Hahahah

If you want to reduce the amount of weight to balance the tire take them a tire shop that has a tire truer. They will shave off some of the tire which will make it ride smoother and take less weight to balance.
