Doesn't it use small primers? While I do love Lapua brass and we use it exclusively on the 7/08, I don't want to go through load development again. I may do that when my 1000 pieces of Hornady brass dies.

I have two questions if I may,,,
If using the small rifle primer in the 6.5 Creedmoor Lapua brass, then you may need a smaller firing pin ( 1.5 mm )or will the original large rifle firing pin ( 2 mm ) be ok to use? Will using a smaller firing pin ( 1.5 mm ) for a large rifle primer be ok to use?
What about the striker pin hole in the large rifle bolt face ? If the hole in the bolt is oversize it may allow the small rifle primer cup to flow into the gap, creating a nice blackhead appearing pimple on the primer.

Going off memory.
Chad says to install a bushing in the bolt and a small firing pin.
Or.
Buy another bolt with a small firing pin.

Buy another bolt with a small firing pin. If buying another bolt, then will need to send the gun to check headspace?

dam, didn't know this, I guess I'll have 100 pieces to sell in a few days Why? It'll be the best brass IN THE WORLD for 6.5 Creedmoor, make the rifle run it. But once you do, commit to only that brass. Don't try to mix Lapua and Hornady. If I was building a brand new rifle, I would order this brass, and modify the bolt to run it. But I'm already committed to 500 pieces of Hornady, a load for it, and a firing pin for it.

You swap bolts and it's not a high end custom you better check headspace. There is only two actions I'd feel confident in doing that in...a BAT and a Kelbly.
Buzz - I bet your bolt is already bushed and those would be fine. You can pull it apart very easy and measure your pin.

Better make sure you get a decapping pin for ppc flash holes. Lapua small use ppc which is smaller than most.

Here's the link below to the discussion on the small rifle primer shooting in a large primer bolt (standard 308 rifle action). I'm not saying don't try it. But if you start to pierce primers, you will want to have your bolt bushed to a small firing pin to prevent the pierced primers. I have seen this issue with the 6.5x47 Lapua many times, which runs the small rifle primers also. The issue is after several pierced primers, you will begin to have trigger issues from all the gases and debris coming back into the firing pin and trigger area. It clogs up the firing pin area, and gets debris into the trigger area causing firing issues. I have had several of these issues in my Surgeon 591 action (standard 308 Win action) shooting my 6.5x47 Lapua. Several other shooters shooting the same caliber and set up have had similar issues. I had several stages in a match where I could not complete a stage or missed some stages because my trigger went down, or the firing pin had the portion of pierced primer lodged at the firing pin, where it would not fire. It is a common issue with this set up. If you run a thin cup primer, like a Fed 205 or CCI #400, it will certainly cause this issue. You will need to run a CCI #41. I ran the CCI #450 in my x47 Lapua, and it would still pierce several out of a 100. But I believe the CCI #450 and #41 are the same cup thickness, but I'd have to check my references again on it. Chad, you are correct on the CCI 41, BR4 and 450 having the same cup thickness along with Remington 7 1/2 .O25 Cup thickness

Got that from the 6.5 Grendel Forum, one of the guys there that wrote the Grendel handloading manuals posted it a while back. Where he got it from I am not sure. I think they have that information in the Grendel handloading manual vol 1 in the discussion on primer selection for AR rifles and recommend using the primers with thicker cups for them.

That confirms what I've been experiencing seating Federal 210 in my Nosler 7-08 brass. They are tight! Never has been that tight getting CCI 200 in. I thought "these Federals have to be wider".
