I always thought about buying a chicken and tying its leg to a string and then the string to an anchor to see if the chicken flipping around would bring out some critters

Roosters can be found for under five bucks.
Put it in a cage. Nail the cage to the top of a post about four to five foot off the ground.
I've used traps around it, but I guess you could hunt it. Make sure you get the loudest rooster, you know, the one they want to get rid off first. If it's white even better. Make sure you feed and water it all the time and you've got bait as long as you keep it alive.

LOL, that's the truth DesertHunting.
By the way, you live in a beautiful area of the state. Going to be out quail hunting in Marathon next week. Try to make it a yearly trip.

Know anyone who raises show chickens? You could probably get a few culls for little or nothing. A lot of people are just looking to get rid of them.

Na, chickens have the survival instinct that might rival a goldfish. Those birds defense mechanism is to die.
