I've been feeding corn for years, and some years it brings in the deer and some years not. This year it isn't working at all. Never tried anything else. Maybe it's time I did. This season is about over, but I can prep for next year. This isn't so much about growing monster racks, since the point isn't to make the neighbors happy, but is just to increase deer traffic on my place.

So what do you fellows recommend that'll tickle their palates? I'll still throw corn, but maybe add your suggested feed.

Feed protein IMO when the deer get on it they will always find a way to your place. It is great for them pre and post rut too.

I Feed Indian Corn. The deer love it and all the colors make them stay at the feeder longer.

If there is a good mast crop (acorns) available, deer will walk right by that corn. One year I had corn so completely ignored that it piled up and sprouted in the feeder pen.

Don't know about feed but a food plot keeps the deer around a lot longer.

If your close enough to Hamilton, TX, stop by MICOBE FEED on HWY 36 and pick up some STAMPEDE. It is a corn and roasted soybean mixture they prepare and it works very well in keeping deer and turkey around. That roasted soybean put out an aroma that attracts. It has sufficient protein for deer development, and it is a lot easier to work with than protein.

I agree with this. Protein can be a great attractor for mature bucks, especially if everybody else is just feeding corn. And, the nutritional advantages are nice too.

As 4W mentioned, start feeding protein now. The bucks are run down from the rut and their bodies will crave it. I would use Double Down, but there are many others that will work. DD has a aroma that will get them on it very quickly.

Thanks for the info. I'll try DD or Stampede, which ever is easier for me to find.

Black -eyed peas have at least 21% protein. If fed year 'round , you will see a remarkable increase in ALL body weights and antler size. I mixed it in with corn and then slowly fazed the corn out.

Try some rice bran. That stuff is amazing.
