Going to be building a new blind this year and on the budget side of things. Any tricks to get them to last? Seems with rain and what not they rot out every 2-3 years. Can't justify paying for a fiberglass blind right now but could change by deer season. Anything to get wood to last?

I'm no builder, but get 'em off the ground any way you can, even on 4 low concrete blocks helps, tin roof, Thompson's or similar water seal and caulk the hell out of every joint. Close the windows EVERY time when you leave.

You probably hate them, but those plastic blinds (The Blynd) last virtually forever, if you treat them right, economical, and easy to set up.

Use tin on the roof and try to seal the crap out of them. I think it's my windows and my doors that usually leak. And always off the ground. Thought about trying that flex seal stuff. Or maybe I just need to rethink how I'm building this time.

X2
I also made one out of a light 1" metal tube frame and covered it with house vinyl siding. Light enough that I can lift it easily and will probably last forever.

I used a product called smart-side siding from home depot. added 2 coats of paint, caulked, sealed every joint, made windows and a door that seal pretty well then put 2" metal flashing on all the cut pieces and joints/seams. As far as lasting, well, I guess that we'll have to wait and see, but the research I did about this siding this blind could last over 20 years, with a few coats of paint every 3 or 5 years.

If your using wood, prime and paint everything before you assemble it. Like stated above a good roof and sealing everything makes a big difference also...

treated lumber frame (or welded metal) and use corrugated metal for siding and roof.

I built a blind out of 2x2 lumber and used corrugated fiberglass for the sides and roof. The stuff that looks like corrugated tin but is made of fiberglass and comes in different colors, meant for patio covers. Hunted out of it for about ten years till a flood washed it away. Was still in good shape at the time.
Base was build out of treated lumber with OSB for the deck since it was covered.

Whatever you do DO NOT USE OSB. Use 3/4" plywood floor prime and paint with exterior paint. If use plywood walls, 1/2" exterior CDX prime and paint all sides and edges before assembly. Roof plywood prime and paint , metal ( noisey), fiberglass panels, ice and water shield with rolled roofing. Frame 2"x2" wood, metal square tube welded,

I used Smart-siding, too. With one coat of paint, caulk at the seams, and double-coating screw holes and the grooves in the siding it is as good after five years as it was new. It has a tin roof with expandable Styrofoam sealing all the edges of the roof from the inside. I trimmed off any excess that made it to the outside edges of the roof.

Like the others said-make it tight, and quiet. Never ever keep a window open.

Did you build you a new one? The one I bought off of you last year is still looking like it's brand new. Great blind!
