I am looking at buying a new to me truck and have a question about the diesel motors that are out. I would like to hear your opinions on the 2012 f250 6.7 motor. If there has not been any motor work done, what should I expect to get for MPG?

6.7 is a solid platform - I think the 12's had a minor radiator issue but other than that I think they're solid. I'm no expert on them though. Depending on how the truck is setup I would say 15 is probably your standard average mpg

keep your tire psi near max
run with clean air filters ; replace 5-10k
clean map air sensor
turn traction control off

you'll get 18-20 mpg (assuming stock tires )

My company truck is an 11 4x4 F250 with the 6.7...it has ran great since we got them. About to upgrade though. I get about 14.5 mpg. I had them put bigger all-terrains on my though.

I have to when I'm on sloppy jobsites. Makes the 4x4 worse for me. Get stuck easier.

Traction controls cuts on and reduces engine power

Has been somewhat documented that turning traction control off while driving helps with fuel mileage, but its very minimal.

I would not run 80 psi in the tires unless its loaded. You MIGHT save on fuel although I doubt it over properly inflated but you will wear out your tires about 20k too soon.

Right there with you on my '15 'in town'. I can get 17-18 on the highway depending on speed and length of trip. Running the truck stock tires and no mods.

My cousin has a 2011 all stock. He gets 13 mpg like clockwork on a 2 mile one way commute.

I have a 2011 that started out stock and a few years later was DPF and EGR deleted. It got about 17 long term average mpg before and increasing towards 18 after the bypass. With way more power...

I had 2011 now have 2015.

If I'm not running low psi I get 16.5-17.5. I normally run 45 upfrount and 40psi rear on 35" and get 15

Only issues I've had with either truck is DEF pump.

Did you have your speedometer/computer recalibrated for the larger than stock tires?

I had a 2000 Cummins that got 20 MPG no matter what. Only time it got less was driving about 5 MPH in first gear in the pasture.

I have 112,000 on my 2012 F350. Ordered it new, hands down best vehicle I have ever owned. Less than $30 in repairs since new, and never had to go in a shop. I tow a number of large gooseneck trailers at least 50% of the time. I just reset the trip B computer for the first time in years and it had logged 13.0 mpg for the last 4421gal used (the miles on the trip cal is only 4 digits so that was invalid). I deleted it last week and mpg looks to be around 2mpg better, time will tell. I run a 30hp tow tune and the truck tows great. I had many, many Dodge diesels before this truck and now all I own are Ford's.
