My 9year old son has been asking me for a long time to go duck hunting so for Christmas I booked a hunt with Blake here on the forum for me, him and 2 really good friends of mine. It was his most exciting gift. He got to be one of the guys on this trip. I really did not care if I even fired a shot. My focus was on him. Ducks started coming in right after legal shooting hours and he took a couple of shots and missed. He was really frustrated and we all explained to him that missing is part of it especially with it being his first time. I calmed him down and he focused back on the hunt. About 20 minutes into the hunt it happened. A green head swooped into the decoys in front of him. The shot was called and he rose up took of the safety and shot. Unfortunately he missed on the first one but he quickly racked another shell and smashed him. The duck buckled and dropped about 12" from from his feet on the ground. He was so excited and Dad was really proud and happy for him. He would not let the duck out of his sight until we got it to the truck.

We got home and he was bursting to tell mom the whole story. Needless to say we could not be prouder for his first duck.

Most important for me is that he proved he could handle himself very safely maintaining his shooting lanes and being sure his gun was on safe at all times. That makes me more proud than anything seeing the way he takes gun safety so serious. I look forward to many more hunts over the next years with my boy.

This is him getting ready to head to the hole.

Patiently waiting and watching

Fantastic hunt. And, as a wise father, you followed the first rule to assure the young man would like the outing - keep the kid WARM! Well done.

Tell him we are proud of him.

Thank You

We are definitely having it mounted. He has already picked the pose he wants it to be in.
