I know this discussion came up earlier in the fall and a lot of people were either for it or against it. Well I would like share a little of my experience with it. We have been feeding it for several years now. A lot of our deer have been raised on it. We feed year round with the exception of about 3 weeks a year. We stop feeding for a week at Thanksgiving a week around Christmas and than about 10 days in mid January. Last year we fed between 190 and 200 tons total thru out the year from January to January. I think we have 6-8 of our two year olds top 160 and we and about 5 of our 3 year olds top 200. These are pasture deer not bucks that were turned out in September to be shot. This is a combination of bucks that were born in the pasture and buck fawns that were turned on in March when they were 7-8 months old. We are very pleased with our results so far Yes it is a more expensive feed but it is well worth the money to us.

As Im sure most of you know Im HF. As a mater of fact we shoot most of our deer by the time they are 4 1/2 it takes a very special deer to make it past that.

I saw some guy wearing a DD feed t-shirt last week at lunch in San Antonio. I almost stopped and bent his ear about it, but he was working so I kept on going.

Your 2 YO's look like clones of my 2 YO's. I've even got a couple at 190-200". I use antler max. I guess all of mine would be better than yours if I switched to DD?

Nope not saying that at all Im just saying its working for us and I think it has been a positive improvement for us. Along with a lot of other things As far as who deer are bigger I don't get caught up in all that I'm sure the majority of the ranches out there have deer a lot bigger then mine. Our goal is to get to a 160 average on our two year olds I want to improve my bottom end deer. I would hope that others can figure out how to raise huge pasture deer so that they might would share of that knowledge with others so that they might be able to improve theirs.
Therancher I would hope one day you might would come spend some time at the ranch or possible let me come to yours and give me some positive input anyone who knows me will tell you I'm very open to looking for better ways to do something

How many acres do you have that you're feeding 200 tons a year?

1,000lbs a day on 500 acres. You've got some hungry animals.

Great looking deer no doubt, and I'm sure the feed is great, but I'd like to see pics of each of those bucks from last year, or 2 years ago, so you can see what kind of jumps they are making.

How are you measuring the results of the feeding program?

Do you have a control area with other 2 year olds of same genetics on any other feed?

Good looking deer. We have some great deer too on a different feed. I contend habitat with sufficient rain at the right time of year does more for deer than any feed especially on a low fence ranch.

I think DD is as good a feed as others out there. I think most folks don't object to the feed itself but more to the constant promotion and sometimes outlandish claims that have been made (not saying you).

Many of the claims I have seen never back it up with pictures (like you did) of the actual horn improvement. We have many pictures of our deer from year to year that shows their progress.

So congratulations on your herd - I know it is a lot of hard work.

You can't fix stupid

500 acres, 18 feeders, 200 tons per year, almost 1200 lbs per day if you only feed 49 weeks as posted. Wow

Working to put together pic of last year and this year to compare. Before deer season we were filling feeders every 10-14 days. We took 64 deer this season looks like we are going to be a little over 3 weeks between refills now. I think the exotics hit the feed as hard or harder the deer seems like the black bucks and axis camp out at certain ones.

64 deer in one season off 500 acres? Holy smokes. Guess you either feed a half ton a day or they starve, way above CC.

200 tons/year on 500 acres. I hope you can afford to continue feeding like that because, with the number of deer you're carrying/acre, they're decimating the native habitat by the day.

I hear nothing but positive feedback from all the hunters using DD just as you have posted.
Thank you for sharing. You should send DD your pictures to their Facebook page!
The Double Down page is posting big bucks and progression photos every day.
You have some great looking bucks.
