I have a few pan and the one they stick their hand into traps that I used to catch some coons last year. I left them at the lease and now they are a little rusty, brought them home to clean up, what would be the best/easiest method, just spray with a rustX or something and then wax or oil?

Thanks!

They'll be fine as long as the mechanism works. I let mine rust rather than dye them. Don't put any oil or petroleum base cleaner on them. If concerned boil and use trappers wax on them.

soak in vinegar that will remove most of the rust. then boil in water to clean the vinegar smell. hang and let dry overnight boil again in water with trap dye. now wax and your ready to roll good luck.

Ok, thanks, I will test them and see if they are still mechanically good and if so, let them be; if not try boiling
