I've had 3 of the Weatherby's and one of the Howa's. ALL have been shooters. My 7mm-08 puts 3 just under .9. The first 243 shoots little bug-holes. Somewhere on here I have a picture of a 4 shot group @ 500 yards under 2".
The third one a friend just had to have, so I sold it to him. That one was a 308. I replaced it with a Howa 308 that I'll be selling here soon since I replaced it with a Tikka T3 that's shooting one-hole groups so far.

Pay it forward - Kids are the future.

Rifles are similar to boats and young women...there's no end to how much money you can pour into them without making them any more useful.

I got the Vanguard in yesterday afternoon, unpacked it - and discovered that I liked the synthetic stock a lot more than I thought I would. The rifle is comfortable on my shoulder, and points naturally.

The bases for my scope mounts will not come in until later today, so I decided to give it a quick cleaning and bore-scope inspection. Running a dry patch through the barrel to get any oil out, it came out black and blue!

Then I ran a patch wet with Hoppes #9 through it, waited a bit and tried another dry patch, and there was lots more copper. After three repeats with the same results, I took a peek with the bore-scope.

Coppered-up pretty good! - I can only assume this was from test-firing at the factory. So, I will put in some more time and get all of that copper out before starting to break the barrel in, later today.

I got the trigger down to 2.5 pounds with no trouble, and was impressed again with the synthetic stock while I had the action out of it. The thing is sturdy, and fits me well.

More pictures soon.

Kind regards, charlesb

the .308...my favorite...got a few Armalites in .308, an M1A Springfield, a Ruger M77 in .308, Ruger No. 1 in .308 but my favorite is an old Remington 788 I bought in high school at Gibsons for $150....still a tack driver after all these years, no wonder Remington discontinued them, they outshot the higher price Remington 700s.

I get up pretty early sometimes. I like to work early in the morning when everybody else here is on their best behavior. (Asleep)

I am hoping to shoot the new rifle a few times this afternoon, I have a temporary scope mounted on it and finally got all of the copper out of it, so it is as ready as it needs to be, for now.

After looking over this Vanguard, I am now thinking that the carbine model might be pretty nice too, in its own way. Maybe get a carbine in .308 and send it off to be bored out to 338 Federal, or 358 Winchester.

Kind regards, charlesb

After various delays involving bad weather, illness and relatives, I finally got to shoot the Weatherby Vanguard in .308 today.

I tried two different factory loads, a Federal premium load with 168 grain Sierra matchkings, and some stuff by Black Rock Powder Co with 150 grain FMJ bullets. Both loads had the bullet holes touching at 50 yards. Apparently the rifle is not picky about what you shoot through it.

The shooting range here is being re-done, they had it all torn up and it was 50 yards or nothing. The target stand holders at all other ranges were gone, I assume to be replaced soon.

The steel targets at 100 yards were still there, but I didn't shoot at them with the Vanguard.

So it looks like a keeper. It is pleasant to shoot with the factory synthetic stock.

I think I'll see if I can tweak the trigger down, it is at 3 pounds now, I would like it better at 2.5 pounds.

Pics very soon.

Kind regards, charlesb
