Is anyone running a Ruger 10/22 suppressed? I picked one up with a TacSol barrel and Magpul X22 stock. Just curious what ammo will reliably cycle the action. Thx for any assistance. Optic feels like overkill with a 56mm objective but it was sitting in my garage.

I have a TacSol barrel on mine (with irons and see-thru mounts) but I have been shooting Mini-Mags through it. I'm not sure a dedicated sub will cycle it.

Yes sir, I have had a 10/22 with an integrated suppressor for several years and it works great. Mine prefers cci subsonic, but shoots the rem and gemtec well also. The only issues mine has is when trying to use 30 rnd mags. Once i load more than 15 rnds it can have some trouble cycling. You will not regret your purchase.

I was reading online and seeing the CCIs and Gemtechs were a common suggestion.

CCI standard Velocity will be worth trying out too; they're fairly inexpensive AND quite accurate (and subsonic btw), and available many places (walmart, academy, midwayusa, etc etc).

I've got a Tacsol SBX on a 10/22 takedown, and it gets fed a steady diet of CCI SV. The standard velocity is still subsonic, and I've never had a hiccup.

I shoot subs through my Tacsol with suppressor and have no issues with cycling.
My integral 10/22 loves the minimag and is actually quieter than the other 10/22 shooting subs. My integral will not cycle CCI, Winchester or Remington subs even with a lightweight Kidd spring installed.

I put a sparrow on my 1969 built 10/22 and it started shooting more ammo more accurately. All my 10/22's like Wolf MT but that old one now shoots Automatch accurately too.

Winchster 40gr subs are great for the price if you can find them. The US made Winchester 45gr (1080fps)sub would probably cycle best. Biggest thing is to keep it clear, that barrel has a tighter chamber than factory and gums up faster.

Ok so I've experimented and the Winchester 42 Max Subsonic 1065 fps hollow points cycle perfectly and shoots very quietly.

I shoot several 10/22's suppressed. All of mine will cycle any subs you want to feed them, even the CCI Quiets. My favorite subsonic ammo is CCI Standard Vel and Gemtech subs. But they shoot shoot Winchester and Norma good too. My 10/22's have all been heavily modified internally, had triggers and bolts worked, factory barrels set back and re-chambered with a match reamer, plus other mods. Bolt work is the most important for running subs. The back of the bolt needs to be re-profiled and polished to run smooth and easy. At that point I would also recommend a poly buffer, it quiets the action down and gives some cushion if you aren't running subs. Here is one of mine: This is what the bottom of a re-radiused and polished bolt looks like.

It's really not that much of a stretch making most semi autos run subs anyways. Think of it this way. Most of your high velocity ammo is loaded to around 1200-1250 fps using bullets in the 36-40 grain range. The hyper-velocity stuff is up around 1300-1350, but it gets most of that speed from lighter bullets of 30-35 grains. Now most of your standard velocity or target loads are in the 1075 to 1150 range, and a 38-40 grain bullet is standard. Where I live up here in the panhandle, at my elevation, the speed of sound is right around 1110 fps. The sound barrier is a bad place to be if you are looking for maximum accuracy in rimfire ammunition. That is why many serious target loads are actually barely subsonic. The manufacturers want to stay away from the trans-sonic zone that negatively affects accuracy.
What that means is that really, subs and target loads are not that much different from each other anyways, and most rifles will run target loads pretty well. With suppressors and subsonic ammunition becoming more popular, demand for tailored subsonic loads has risen. What many manufacturers have done is up the bullet weight slightly into the 42-43 grain range, so they can add a bit more powder and still stay subsonic. This gives a little more energy to run the bolt, better reliability, yet still keep velocities below the "sonic crack" threshold. Once you start running a can, any round that is slightly above the barrier creates a very noticeable increase in noise level, and folks that are running cans really pay attention to that.
Hope that helps you think about 22 subs and decide what you are really looking for.

No, I worked that one myself. Radiused it, polished the bottom where the hammer rides, headspaced it, profiled and pinned down the firing pin, and then I masked off the polished part before I blasted it and cerakoted it. It also has a VQ extractor.

Thank you very much for all of the information. I am by no means a rimfire expert but I definitely notice the "crack" sound with the HV ammo in comparison to the above mentioned ammo or any other that is in the 1075 range. I haven't had the time to shoot for accuracy but I'm pleased with the lack of sound. It's all for fun and I'm sure that eventually I will refine and tweak certain items as I go. This is actually my first Ruger 10/22 to ever own and just a brief search of aftermarket parts as to what can be changed is a little overwhelming. I'll stick with the basics for now until I figure out what may need to be changed to better suit my needs. But again thank you for the information for a better understanding

My 10/22T runs just fine shooting the Aguilla 40 gr sub-sonic ammo.

I'm shooting a lot of 22 colibri 20 grains with no powder. I can shoot it in town. Not very accurate but I'm trying to cure a flinch. I go through about 50 to 100 per day.
