A while back I think I posted something about this and most people thought it'd be the G19. Well, according to this and military.com and a few other sources, SIG Sauer got the $580 million contract. New sidearm will be the P320. Link I remember when SIG released the gun. Guns & Ammo loved it. I also remember it being marketed as a Glock competitor. What do y'all think of the gun and the Army's decision?

Good choice. I don't personally like Glocks at all. Love Sig.

Your link doesn't mention the 320 unless I missed it.

When something like this comes out it will be another 5-10 yrs before most military units receive the weapon. Same thing happened with the M4 heck some units still have M16s

Hate sigs and the trigger sucks period. 19 is a better shooter and better when filthy dirty that was a bad decision IMO. The M9 trigger sucks too but it's a shooter unlike ANYTHING with sig stamped on it.

Colt: American. Springfield Armory: American. Smith and Wesson: American. Remington: American. Ruger: American.
FNH: founded in Belgium. Sig Saur: founded in Germany. HK: German. Beretta: founded in Italy. Glock: Austrian.
There are plenty of great American arms makers out there.

I love how people assume that because I'm not older than dirt I haven't shot guns in my life.
It is a difference of opinion and that's all.

Actually, unless you've carried both a sandstorm in the Middle East, it is an opinion. Or at least conjecture.

There are plenty of great American arms makers out there. I have a Springfield XD. Its made in Croatia. Our military should have the best guns period. They can always specifcy in the contract to make them in the US.

I'd like to try a P320 out in a compact configuration. Having owned three Glocks, I'm fairly certain I don't like them at all.

I will start this by saying, I have carried a Glock since 1985 (17,21,19) I have carried the same 19 since 1989/1990. But hanging out with some "Sig only" guys at the gun shows and training classes. The 320 is a great firearm in it simplicity, maintenance, and the ability to swap out modules for different size hands.

"Fact" based on what data? I'm on my fourth deployment carrying a SIG, and carried a couple others before that, and can't agree that your statement about it versus the Glock is anything but opinion.

Unless the sand in the middle east is different than the sand here in West Texas I may have to disagree, my Sig's survive them just fine. My 239 has seen 10 + years of West Texas sand storms. The 220 and the 229 have seen their share also but the 239 is a daily carry.

Springfield XD isn't made in America and Springfield has had horrible QC issues lately. Remington and ruger don't make any pistols worth even being part of the testing.

I was recently reading an article about the 2013 M4 contracts...Colt was severely underbid by Remington in 2012 but then they made an issue about patent royalties and Remington lost the contract (or something like that) and FNH-USA ended up getting the contract. Made in America alongside M16A4 and M249. link There's a reason special operators prefer the European guns. I'm not entirely sure why, but it has happened and keeps happening: the HK 416 was cater-made for/to Delta's specs after the Battle of Mogadishu, MARSOC switched from M9 back to M1911 to G19, SF and SEALs use the HK MP5 and FNH SCAR, Delta uses HK45, SEALs use MK25...and so on. I was watching a Vickers Tactical video yesterday and USSOCOM's PSR program apparently bought the S&B PM-II before they decided on a rifle/chasis because of how much the operators liked the glass...S&B is very, very German. Only the best for humanity's fiercest warfighters is the way I look at it. These are all tools of the trade and where they are made doesn't really matter as much as how well they do the job.

FNH: founded in Belgium. Sig Saur: founded in Germany Switzerland. HK: German. Beretta: founded in Italy. Glock: Austrian.
There are plenty of great American arms makers out there. 100% agree Colt already makes rifles for military, S&W participated in this and lost. Colt and FN have the contract, remington sued. There is no guarantee colts portion of the contract will be reassigned to remington if at all. Colt owns the rights to the TDP (technical data package) so when FN sells rifles to the military, Colt gets proceeds for their intellectual property. We are talking regular Army not SF here.

Ah gotcha. Point taken on the SF part as well.

Hate sigs and the trigger sucks period. 19 is a better shooter and better when filthy dirty that was a bad decision IMO. The M9 trigger sucks too but it's a shooter unlike ANYTHING with sig stamped on it. My SP2022 will outshoot the M9. Better trigger, cheaper gun, polymer. I wish they would use American guns, instead of companies that have their roots outside the US. SIG is based out of Exeter, NH. What matters is the quality of weapon not the origins of the olden companies. Just about everything in international markets has corporate headquarters and is "based out of" USA. Your opinion and that's all it could be at 18 years of age means nothing to me. The siq will NOT perform like a Glock after/during a sandstorm in the Middle East that's a fact not an opinion. And we all had to be 18 at one time or another. No reason to be disrespectful to a kid who has always been very respectful around here. Was not being disrespectful, but I think he consistently is.....
Never been to a camping world. I prefer Dick's to be honest.

"Fact" based on what data? I'm on my fourth deployment carrying a SIG, and carried a couple others before that, and can't agree that your statement about it versus the Glock is anything but opinion. Oh but it is a fact not a opinion

We all have our opinions about these pistols. I personally like Glocks and have carried them for duty for over 20 years and counting. I had a sig 220 at one time and it was a nice pistol, just didn't fit me as well as my glock 21, granted the P320 is modular and could probably be made to fit me better. I think that the Sig is a huge improvement over the beretta m9, and that is just my opinion. I am not a beretta pistol fan at all. I hope it serves the troops well and that is my main concern. Their safety and ability to make accurate shots. If I was in the sandbox, I would want my Glock for ease of maintenance and familiarity. On that same note, shooting ball ammo I prefer the 45 to the 9, but that is obviously not an option for most of the troops. Gotta make the best of what you are issued.

I would think the Army tested these guys in Sandy conditions to make sure they work well.

I've only seen chital be a respectful debater. I've also seen him focus on the facts and try to research to find the same.
To be determined

I wish they would use American guns, instead of companies that have their roots outside the US. Ditto cowboy, but thing is americans have made some total crap. Ill never buy another GM product but the wife's accord and pilot have had zero issues. Shes back in american now, rolling the jeep. Im a sig fan, loved my 226, 229 and still have my 1911s

I'm hoping for some cheap M9's to flood the market.
Still kicking myself for selling my 92FS.

Still kicking myself for selling my 92FS. That'll be fun. My dad really likes the M9/92FS but we don't have one

I think the real operators care way more about their M-4 than their sidearm
BUT
I'm sure they need one which hold LOTS of bullets and will work when the SHTF
