Wanting to get a bolt action rifle dedicated for predator hunting (fox, bobcat, and yotes primarily). I'm pretty set on a 22-250 and would like a heavy threaded barrel for suppression. I've looked at savage, howa, and ruger rifles. Appreciate your recommendations.

I've used a standard Ruger M77 in 7x57/7mm Mauser and have my own Weatherby Vanguard in 22-250. The M77 Predator in 22-250 seems to meet your standards and the M77 is a sweet, reliable, and accurate rifle. Hope that helps.

I would look at a handi shorter heavy ish barrel to take in account for the suppressor.

I would also think ahead on want bullet you plan to shoot and watch your twist rate

I've got a CZ varmint in 204 for the same purpose you have. If I were to change one thing it would be the heavy barrel, wish I would have gone with a lighter weight barrel for carrying purposes.

I don't stick to one gun so my favorites are a Ruger No. 1 Varminter in .22-250, a Savage 93 in .17 hmr, Ruger M77 .257 Roberts, Ruger mini 14 Tactical .223 and my latest a DPMS Sweet 16 with a Vortex 1x6x 24....I am so lucky...love all my guns !!!

Ruger American Predator in .223 shooting 60 grain VMax bullets. Good out to 200 yards and will kill any coyote & bobcat you may encounter. Cheap, accurate, threaded, and ammunition is easily available.

They also have the Predator in .22-250, and if you want something handier, the Ranch in 5.56/.223 with a 16 1/8" barrel.

Are the stocks in the Rugers ok? Saw the ranch and it felt really cheap.. also claims free floating barrel however the stock seemed to touch the barrel in several locations.

I finally got to see a Ruger American Predator in person the other day. The stock was very underwhelming. Action seemed "meh".

I'd look at the Savage 11VT at Dick's Sporting Goods. 24" heavy barrel with the accutrigger should handle anything you'd want to do.

If you want a utility rifle with a heavy barrel, I'd agree with these guys. The tikka is a 14 twist which will probably limit you to 55gr bullets and lighter, but it should shoot those very well. fast and flat and be very cool coyote getter.

I purchased a t3x varmint just like this but in 223 a month or so ago. It's at gunsmith being rechambered to 223ai, chopped to 20" and threaded 5/8x24. I'm eager to get it back and try it out.

I also have a couple t3 lites, a 223 and a 243 chopped and threaded 1/2"x28. I use a thread adapter to mount my SAS Barricade suppressor. It's a very light can and POI drops 3" or so with the can on vs off. I'd hesitate to mount a heavy can on a light barrel.

Thanks! I'm leaning towards the tikka or howa kyprtek. Howa comes with a hogue stock and a 20" bull barrel. Anyone have this particular Howa?

What can you expect for the price tag?

Yes, the stocks aren't the best quality, and most will touch in places. But a piece of sandpaper, a wooden dowel, and 15 minutes fixes that easily. The actions aren't Tikka smooth, but they do feed and function reliably.

For the price, it's hard to beat the accuracy and quality of a Savage 10/110, 11/111, or 16/116. Even the new Savage Axis II's are pretty darn good, with a helluva price to boot.

Wal Mart has a heavy barrel Savage Axis XP 22-250 on sale for $398 right now. Heck of a gun for the $.

I'm a big Savage guy! I have a 10/110 in 6.5 creedmoor. Unreal how accurate it is with factory hornady 129 ssts. I know they have the exact same gun in 22-250... maybe I should just stick with what I know works!

Familiarity with your firearm is never a bad thing.

I favor CZ rifles.

Every time I change to another caliber I always come back to the Styer 243 and light bullets no heavier than 70 grain. I've probably shot 250 yotes in the last 6 years with at least 150 taken with the 243 and have only had two I had to give another shot and no runaways. The Rem 22-250 would probably come next and then the CZ 223. The smaller 17's are great for head shots but leave too many runaways for me.

I have two RA predators 22-250, 308 both shoot great. No problems at all, just find the right bullit my 250 really likes Hornady 55gr

I like my Savage Predator in 22-250, but I usually use a Frankenstein 6.8 SPC for coyotes. Where I usually hunt, 200 yd. is a long shot.

The Armscor M22 in 22tcm looks like it would be a good walking varminter or truck gun.

I have a 220 and a 223 already, but if I was going to get a new rifle for varmints, I do believe I'd go for a 243 AI and shoot small bullets very fast. Or I could just rebarrel the 220 with a faster twist. As for the rifle, it would probably be a Tikka with a medium heavy 20 inch barrel.

Everyone has their likes and dislikes. I'm kinda partial to Remington 700's and 220 Swifts
