Anyone used win 296 with these short bullets?
Want to try to make up a load to test, want information on at least where to start.
Was going to start around 16gr.

I think 18 gr would be a good starting point.

I am guessing with the short bullet, there is going to be a significant leap to the lands...this is ok?

I've always wanted to try the 90 XTP in the blk out. Post your performance results once shoot it, please. Just don't shoot them suppressed until you know the bullet will hold together. The 90 grain XTP is a hand gun bullet for slower handgun rounds with slower twists (about 80,000-85,000 rpm's). In the blk out with an 8" twist and faster speeds, your RPM's should be around 200,000-240,000. That's a lot of force on a handgun bullet.
QuickLoad is showing a max charge of 22.0 grains of H110/Win296 powder at 1.650" COAL and 2670 fps in a 16" barrel. I'm not sure where this bullet seats, so if it's shorter than this, decrease this max charge some for the shorter COAL.

my subsonic with this has OAL of 1.75 so way away from lands. You should have an explosive load pushing it supersonic not many have. FYI they will not feed in AR and poorly in bolt.

For clarity: explosive bullet performance, I get expansion at 1050fps pushing it 1900 and above would expect bullet to really open up. There are a couple of supersonic loads out there none using 296 that I am aware of.

Not the first handgun bullet used in rifles, I bet it will work fine. Yes, you are probably correct. But as a precaution, I personally would not shoot these through a suppressor until I knew that they hold together and would shoot.

Chad's info gives you something to think about load wise. As I said before not may people have pushed this bullet at supersonic speeds, there probably is a reason there is not more info on this bullet being pushed hard out of a 300blk.

Not with that bullet but have seen a blue vapor/lead trail from a bullet coming apart in flight. Agree with Chad, would not want that scenario through a suppressor
I would try it but keep velocities below the bullet speed rating above. I have run some handgun bullets at high speed before but was using less frangible ones, a 180gr 35 cal partition handgun bullet at 2900fps from a 350rem mag makes short work of hogs.

I have shot them with a stout load of 2400 (16.0 +) thru my can, they hold up just fine. They come unglued when you hit anything. I used them in a handi rifle and they would feed in my howa. About 3MOA groups when launched at 2200+ fps

Id like to try and setup a load using win296...and I am ok with 1800-2000fps. Just want to see if my gun can shoot it accurate at these speeds.

Quickloads is calculated. Sometimes it is very accurate sometimes not as much.

What's at the front of your magazine inside? Something to help aid in feeding?

Not me, found it on youtube. My experience with the 90 mirrored his. Explosive. looks like some type of glued in spacer.
