Is anyone killing any or much less seeing many on the coastal prairies these days? Or is everyone just keeping quiet about it? Gone are the 80-100 kill days. . . Now you shoot a 6 man limit of specks and a handful of snows and it's a GREAT hunt And I'm not talking about conservation season

There are still plenty of places to kill 100+ a day, it just may not be in Texas anymore. We have a lot of the big days each year. I chase them in NE, IA and SD each year and we kill 800-1000 birds in about 12-14 days. I just think it does not get cold enough in the central us to push the birds in numbers down south as it used to. That and the change of crops fields or lack there of. Got to travel with the juvies and ya still put a beat down on them til your hearts content.

Texas is what I was talking about. There used to be over a million geese visiting here. Now 250,000 if that even.

Most I've seen shot in the last several years is 33, and that is over about 25-30 hunts. The 33 bird day was 12 guns, so it didn't add up to much per man.

Arkansas along 40 from little Rock to Memphis is covered in snow geese. It's like an outdoor channel show when we drive thru there a few times a week

That artical is from 2012. I realize that, but it does explain the recent decline in snow goose numbers. Although the newer article shows an increase in numbers, keep them coming!!!

60 has been our best shoot so far this season with a bunch in the 30's. I'm in no way saying the goose numbers are what they were 10-15 years ago, but there are a good number of geese down compared to recent years. We haven't exactly had the best weather for goose hunting this season. With better weather we would have a bunch of 50+ bird hunts. I also wonder how many of those big shoots were in the decoys vs. pass shooting.

None of our big shoots are pass shooting or jumping of birds. All done over decoys. Large spread of 2500-3800 decoys running traffic

Hundreds of thousands birds never come south of Kansas/Missouri. Squaw creek and other resivouirs are not freezing up like they used to and there is no need for birds to travel as far south as years past. Speaks the same for both geese and ducks. The snow line has been middle of North Dakota or in SD which makes for a huge and fast migration in the spring up to those points and the. The birds will stall out and the shooting can be outstanding in the northern states.

2000 was the last season I tried to chase snows on the coastal prairie. Saw the writing on the wall: no water, no rice, no geese.

A 60 bird hunt with 10-12 people is not all that impressive to me. I would take a 1 person 15 bird hunt or 2 person 30 bird hunt over it any day during regular season. There have been limit decoying snow goose hunts this year on the prairies, so the decline in geese to south texas hasn't reduced all areas to 2 specks and a few snows per person entirely. Until recently I could count on a decoying limit of snow geese once or twice a season (with 1 or 2 hunters), but it's getting tougher each year.
