Whats your opnion? I'm going to buy a Plex retical and I don't want ballistic turrets. I'm limited by my eyesight so I don't need a 1000 yard scope. I've got 2 Swarovski's, an old Habitch and a newer Z3 that I'm happy with but I thought I'd ask the group?

I think the Z3 falls right in at $999...lol. I've used the Z5 and it's great. BIL is right on the VX6, but I don't think it is less than $1k; maybe the VX3i.
I don't know if the Conquest HD5 by Zeiss falls under $1k, but it is about that price range and is a great scope as well.

My experience with 3 Z3s has been great. The VX6 also seems highly respected but I have no experience.

Thanks for the link, I'd like to try a Kahles but I should have added more detail to my post. I need a 3X12 or 3x14 at least. With my eyesight I need more magnification help than 3x9 or 3x10! That's dang sure a good buy! I bought a Zeiss HD5 that was 5x25x50 I think and it was just too big and heavy for the rifle. I Sold it and lost a few coins on that one!

No one can tell you. If you look through the scopes mentioned, chances are one of them will stand out to your eyes. The choice is then made for you.

Thanks for all the feedback folks, I think I'll start looking for a deal on a Swarorovski z3 or z5 in 4x12 or 4x14 with a plex reticule.

I'd pick the 2-12x42 VX6 over the 1" Swaro, but that's just my humble opinion. Had a SwaroA 3-10x42 give up the ghost while I was attempting to kill a big 190" mule deer. Swaro fixed the erector no problem though, as you would expect.

If you want a standard plex reticle and your not going to turn the turret than its a easy decision to me. Swarovski. All of the other mentioned scoped like the vortex razor are great scopes but a lot of what you are paying for is the turrets, reticles etc. If you dont want that then just spend your money on the best glass there is. And thats swarovski without a doubt.

It is lightweight with great glass. http://www.vortexoptics.com/product/vortex-razor-hd-lh-3-15x42-g4-bdc-riflescope

I am not a long range shooter but the BT was only an extra $50. Will set turret for 200, 300, and 400. Overall price was just over $1250 IIRC....

I've been buying from Camerland for over 20 years and I've managed to pick several Swarovski's at a fair price from time to time! I'm going to watch for some shot show specials in the next month. Maybe they will run the z5 on sale!

Update on my question in the OP. I bought a Swaro Z5 3.5x18x44 with a plex reticule. Euro optics have them for a couple hundred cheaper than most other places. With no tax or shipping cost it was too sweet to pass. I'll post a field report sometime this year. I haven't decided what rifle I'll mount it on yet but that's part of the fun. Thanks for the comments and advice! Elk
