My old, 1980s vintage, reliable, clunky, cheap, plastic, bulky, D-Cell flashlight bit the dust. It was so old the plastic had become brittle and couldn't handle rolling from the floorboard of the truck onto a rock last weekend.
Anybody have a good recommendation for handheld or headlamps?
Thinking about going with both a handheld and headlamp. Want to stay south of $100 bucks for each.

For handheld, I have one of THESE. I absolutely love it. I've been through a ton of flashlights through the years, usually just due to upgrades whenever something new comes out, and this one is by far the best one. I originally bought one for my brother for Christmas a few years ago, and I liked it so much I ended up buying one for myself. Not cheap, but totally worth the price.

I am a little bit on the cheap side. I bought a Sure Fire a few years back and love it but at $275 bucks it had better be good. Last couple of years I have bought the Ultra Fire, three different colors. At $14.99 they are real good lights. At that price buy each color you want and pick up a charger and rechargeable batteries from them too. ULTRAFIRE

+1 on the Ultrafire. I have one of these in white, as well as a couple other Ultrafires. Small, inexpensive, good quality. One drawback: There are many different retailers and most of these are shipped directly from China and can take over a month to receive.

If we're still talking cheap... Another inexpensive, but surprisingly good quality, line of flashlights and headlamps is the Ozark Trail brand at WalMart.

I'm a sucker for Streamlight. I work the streets of Dallas at night and rely on good lights. That being said I don't trust battery's and keep about 5 lights with me while on duty. My favorite handheld light in the Streamlight Polytac, believe it's around $40, requires CR123 batteries which I prefer over rechargeable because they last longer. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0039D8ZFC/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1484180529&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=streamlight+polytac&dpPl=1&dpID=413c0jqc%2B4L&ref=plSrch For the headlight I use the Streamlight Trident https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00064YL7...&ref=plSrch

I have 3 different Thrunite flashlights and they are great. I have the TN12 and the TC10 and they are both amazing. The TN12 fits in your pocket but will shine out to about 100 yards with a wide beam. The TC10 shines to about 200 yards with a narrower beam but is also a little larger. They run around $50-60 and are some of the best lights on the market. Link

After losing a Rigid Industries I went cheap for just a quick replacement. I went with the one in the link below, and so far it's worked very well. Went with this one

I wanted a flashlight and head lamp that could be charged via USB from a battery bank or solar power. I ended up with a streamlight protac USB, and a black diamond revolt. Both are great lights with plenty of brightness. Have used the revolt a lot this year while gutting deer in the dark, makes a great difference.

Picked up the Sniper Hog Lights 40KAP headlamp with their light shield and the extra red LED module and it's great. Has an adjustment knob from beam to flood and their distance in the description is accurate unlike most of these companies who exaggerate their light distances. I also have the feeder light kit with the remote and it has to be the best one out there.
