So I have ordered a Grayboe Renegade for the stock. I am looking to get a bit heavier, threaded barrel. I plan on running my Saker 7.62 on it. Again, not wanting to break the bank. Is it easier to just have a gunsmith take care of the ordering/selection process?
Thoughts, opinions

Depends on who your gun smith is. Some smith's like you to bring them everything. Some will order them for you, and wait for the components to come in. The main thing is planning that with you and your gun smith. Working out the details and the parts does take time, and a lot of gun smith's want to work on a lathe and not have the long consultations or sit on the phone or computer ordering parts.

Also, when I build a rifle, I pick which bullet I plan to shoot first. Then I select the correct barrel twist for this bullet. Then select the contour and length to fit your needs. I always build a rifle backwards, meaning I start with the bullet first, then expand to my needs. Another thing you have to figure out is the magazine system and making sure your ammo will fit in the mag with the bullet and round you plan to shoot.

I'm building a hunting size rifle in 7mm/300 Win Mag with the new bore rider throat (for added velocity), and I plan to shoot the new Berger 195 grain EOL bullet. This bullet requires a 1:8.3" minimum barrel twist to work correctly, so I went with a 1:8" barrel twist. I have known several shooters spend a large amount of money on a custom rifle build, to later find out they can not shoot the bullet they want because they did not plan for the correct twist barrel.

That's some good advice about building from the bullet back. Also maybe look at what other guns you have. I like for my bullet/gun choice to fill a void. 95 grain to 150 to 180 to 300 etc.

Chad is right on!
Most of the people don't consider the use of the gun and what bullet.
The twist should be controlled by the selected bullet.

I do not have a specific bullet in mind, wont be handloads. Probably end up running different bullets depending on the situation/hunt
