I like this quote by Steven Rinella,
“Forfeiture of our federal public lands is another one of those ideas put forth by reckless politicians looking to make a short-term splash without any serious thought to the consequences of their actions. This will lead to more gates, more industrial disturbance, and less wildlife. Pardon the frankness, but this is a downright stupid idea.”

This video discusses why the states constitutionally REQUIRED to sell off public land to private parties if it is not turning a profit. I'm telling you folks, they are gearing up to sell YOUR land to the biggest political money contributors and you won't see a dime. You will only lose access.

Here is why is is almost guaranteed that the Federal land will get sold when the states get control.

The death of public lands spells the eventual death for most outdoor sports and American traditions, hunting included. The rich will always have private playgrounds, but fine old American traditions like squirrel and coon hunting will disappear.

Why would the Feds even consider giving federal lands to the states? Why not sell them outright and use the money to pay off the national debt?
The western states have done everything possible to exclude nonresident hunters which has done little to keep public lands public. They shouldn't be surprised that their selfish behaviors are having consequences.

There is no reducing the debt. The money goes to special interest groups to buy votes. The more money you give them, the more they spend,

Whiptail's 2nd paragraph is what Ive been whining about for 40 years ...and ya'll can see how successful I've been with that refusal to spend my $'s buying the rope they are hanging Non Resident Hunters out to dry with...same Classic story as shown in my Sig line about Aesops's fables. There are two sides to the nonresident hunter deal.
First, the western states do have to pay for game management (even on federal lands), so a preference for residents who shoulder that cost is understandable.
Second, the market keeps telling western states they can raise prices, mandate expensive license purchases, cut NR tags - and STILL make a bunch of $$$ off of nonresidents. Simply put, it's capitalism. The demand for tags is greater than the supply - so people are willing to pay to play.
Arlington gets most of its share of the new stadiums paid for through hotel taxes, rental car taxes, and other taxes paid by non-Arlington residents. It's the same principle.
All that said, the standard 10% nonresident allocation for premium tags most states now have is ridiculous. And the application costs are beyond what many can realistically afford. So some changes are in definitely in order.
But a NR who is willing to do a little research can still hunt elk, mule deer, and antelope every year in western states without breaking the bank. Are they the premium units with 200" deer and 400" elk? No, but those animals have never been easy to come by anyway.
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

Please explain how they have done so. I'm intrigued. Price? Amount of tags allocated? Do tell.

Do you really think non residents should have the same number of tags available as residents? What states don't allow non resident hunters? Is $500 too much for an elk tag? Is 20% too few tags?

I don't think there's any doubt if we don't stop our wasteful ways that one of the avenues for revenue will be the privatization of public lands. Not sure if any of you have been to National Parks lately, but I have and they aren't being manned or taken care of like they used to and that's because America doesn't have the money to do so. I'm confident Trump will appoint people and give directions that will save our public hunting opportunities but in order to do so, he'll have to cut wasteful spending from other areas of government in order to avoid this action.
How come everybody I meet is a deer hunting expert?

We have had this conversation many of time about the state parks here how some just aren't taken care of well. Or if they are the people who use them treat them as a dumpster. Not all people treat them like that but there out there who could care less. We have discussed why doesn't the state have a private company run the parks. Well that would naturally raise the prices to use the parks and for some people that week long summer trip to a park may be all that they can afford. The parks were created so that any person out there would be able to enjoy the park. My brother in law who has lost touch with life is a big proponent to privatize them. He often forgets that he grew up being apart of a family that could only afford a trip to Garner each summer as their vacation. Now that he is doing real well financially he has different thoughts about certain things.

http://sportsmensaccess.org/If you would like to oppose this transfer, please take a moment to sign the petition the site linked above. It reads this: "Sportsman opposing the sale or transfer of public lands Dear State and National Decision Makers: As an American sportsman who values public lands for hunting and fishing, I request that you actively pledge your support for America's public lands legacy and oppose efforts to transfer federal public lands to individual states. America's public lands managed by agencies such as the U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management provide important fish and wildlife habitat and public access for hunting and fishing. Millions of Americans use these lands to spend time with their families, put food on their tables and enjoy the great outdoors. States are simply not equipped to support the enormous costs associated with managing public lands. State ownership would result in the fire sale of public lands to billionaires and foreign companies, where millions of acres would be closed to public access and an American birthright would be lost. "

Has anybody received a response from their elected officials after signing the petition?
I got an email from congressman Pete Sessions. He basically agreed we should preserve public land for future generations, but then advocated transferring them to the states because of issues regarding the national debt. Typical politician talk ... completely ignores the fact that states have repeatedly sold their lands to private parties.
