CZ will finally be chambering some of the 527 mini-mauser rifles in 6.5 Grendel. Guess the introduction of a boltaction Grendel by Howa last year got them to go ahead with something that has been requested by their customers for about 8 years. I see it is listed on their website in the American and Rustic models Li nk

There is still some issue there Ed but they did address it a little with a different shape on the bolt aka like James Calhoon offers with his 19 caliber conversions which helps

That is great news! I have always wanted to build one but just haven't had the time. Will be looking for when they hit the market. They ought to sell a ton of them.

Kinda like that they have them in 7.62x39.
Might have to try one.

Maximizing performance with high BC 6.5mm bullets in the AR-15 platform..... I get it.
Putting it in a bolt action when you could be sending those same bullets with a lot more velocity? I don't get that.

Just wondering if you like and have a 26 Nosler or 264 Win Mag? If not you are leaving performance on the table for 6.5 diameter bullets. If you are a fan of the medium velocity 6.5s you are not getting all you can from those same bullets either.

Chambering it in the 6.5 G is icing on the cake. The low recoil and decent performance will make this rifle a great choice for youth or women alike.

And some people don't like unnecessary recoil, me included. I started with a 243 and went up the ladder to a 300 WSM and then back down again to the 243. It does all I could ask for and I shoot it really well. The Grendel in a bolt would be a sweet little rig and one my kids could start out with for deer.

Well of course they could. Is your argument against the 6.5G or against all new cartriges all together? I would prefer a 6.5G, bigger bullet with less recoil and plenty of umph to get the job done within normal hunting ranges.

Redchevy since Cabela's sells the CZ 527 in the other calibers I bet you will be able to get one in Grendel from them.

I like Grendels and CZ as a company, but I've only owned their pistols. Seems like this might be a good candidate for a scout scope.
Does anyone know if their action allows "under hazard" loading or rather dropping a single round in the chamber without loading it into the magazine? I like the ability to do so if needed or when testing loads at the range. Mauser style actions, like that on the Ruger GSR, are notorious for only wanting to feed from the mag, although about 50% of GSR's will allow under hazard loading. Just wondering how CZ's works.

to get THAT kind of performance you start playing with stuff that may or may not fit in a short action. In addition, that extra couple hundred FPS has the potential to cost you some barrel life. I think the Grendel is a fine cartridge, there is no doubt about that. I also think the magnum 6.5's are great cartridges as well. It's all about what you're priorities are. I just think the Grendel is at it's greatest in an AR-15, and you could get a lot more out of a small bolt action with a 6.5x47 or Creedmoor for not much increase in recoil or weight.

Crews I get it but the micro actions from Howa and CZ as well as a couple others are even smaller than a standard short action and lighter weight. The recoil of the Grendel is noticeably less than from a 243 even in a rifle that is a pound lighter and yet delivers with some loadings over 1000ft/lbs of energy at 400 yards with a 123 or 130gr bullet while burning 25 to 30% less powder. Not a bad combination and with its lower pressure and less powder burned barrels last longer. Though most hunters will never shoot out a barrel.
There is something to be said about the economy of scale, I had a CZ converted to Grendel a couple years ago after hunting with one in an AR-15 some and though I really liked the performance from the AR for most of my hunting I prefer a bolt action, If I am hunting past 300 yards for deer I will no doubt bring out one of the long range rifles but that is not what I hunt these days.

I would hope so, but they carry the howa mini action as well, but only in 223 and according to their customer service line don't and have no plans to carry them in the Grendel

Mine will allow under hazard loading, which surprised me since my Mausers won't. I had assumed it would not, then accidentally did it one day and figured out it would. Mine is a 223. I love that little rifle, and so does my 9 year old daughter. She has been shooting deer with it for 3 years now, and hasn't had a single problem with it. She shoots it a bunch. We are already about half way through the barrel on it (3000 rounds or so), and have a replacement barrel on the shelf for when the original goes south. I think a Grendel would be dandy in that rifle.

She will likely shoot her first pig or maybe deer next season. I don't want to ruin her with a 6 pound Sako from recoil. So no. I put an adjustable buttplate on my 527 so my daughter could start shooting it when she was 5. She killed her first deer with it when she was 6. IMO, at that age, bullet placement (along with shooting the right bullet) is everything. Having them shoot something they are very comfortable with goes a long ways towards getting the bullet in the right spot. My daughter loves to shoot that little CZ with a can on it and therefore she does go shoot it a lot. 50 rounds in an afternoon, no problem. Since she shoots it a bunch, she can hit exactly where she needs to. Coupled with a good bullet, that means dead deer. She focuses on the deer and the shot, not the rifle. She trusts the rifle, and believes in it. It fits her, and is not too big/long/heavy. She is 9 now, and still shoots that same rifle. Last week she had to make a pretty technical shot, shooting a doe in the spine over the top of a log that was in the way. It took confidence in the rifle and her own skills, and knowing the bullet was going to go where she wanted it to. She dropped it in its tracks. I have a 243 she can move up into whenever she wants. But I am good with her shooting the 223 as long as she wants to as well, because she is deadly with it. It ain't broke yet, so I'm not going to fix it, if you know what I mean. When she wants to start shooting further, then she will have to step up. I think you are on the right track. Grendel would be sweet, but a 223 will work just fine too.

Do you happen to know what needs to be done to accommodate it?
