TheCabelas Savage 10T is the same price with the accustock but no threaded barrel. Don't see it in the Academy ad but the Cabelas rifle has 5R rifling

For the same or not much more, you could get the 10 FCP, which has a 10rd mag and Accustock. Gunbroker has a bunch.

The things you guys mentioned are definitely what I was thinking/considering.
I didnt know if this one had the 5R rifling either, which it doesnt say so it probably doesnt.

Not a new model or exclusive to academy. It's the same 10P-SR that savage has sold in the past, except the P-SR has 5R rifling. https://www.cheaperthandirt.com/product/...011356220769.doI had a 10P-SR and competed in the first annual hunter rifle challenge with it. Great rifle, but I recently sold it and replaced with a Tikka T3X CTR in 6.5 Creedmoor.

It does say that it has 5R rifling in the spec section and reviews.

QSYB - I can't find any of the 10FCP guns on gunbroker for under $600.
If this one has the 5R rifling, it's a good deal for sure. Reviews seem to indicate that it does. The 10FCP has a better detachable mag and an accustock, which are nice. But even this one for $550 will stretch my brother's budget.

Good deal! Found a review that had one only shooting 2MOA with factory ammo ( link). Is that common? My Savage 11VT was a .5 MOA rifle with Federal Gold Medal Match 168 SMK. It didn't have an accustock or 5r rifling. I love the configuration of this rifle though. Is it a light, medium, or heavy contour?

We bought one-- had a $100 gift C for Academy. Nice gun, think it has 5r --but not sure--it shoots very well.
We put it on a ranger with a supressor. It works...

The 10 PT-SR is a quality rifle, but as others have said, for a similar price I'd rather have the 10FCP-SR. This is especially true with the available 24" barrel option. A good place to look is slickguns.com or join $10 Gun Club (they sell all rifles for only $10 over their wholesale cost). I've seen some killer deals on Savages at $10GC.

Would the Axis II line with a heavy barrel be worth looking at for a little less money when comparing to the Savage 10 line?

Axis supposedly shoots good, but won't have the aftermarket mods/parts support that a model 10 action does. If you're going with a heavy barrel axis, you're probably looking at minimum $400-$450. For about $100 extra, I'd go with the Savage 10. If money is really a concern, go with the light barrel Axis for around $300. The heavy barrel model 10 will hold it's value best of all the options you're considering.

One of the FCP-SRs went on Gunbroker yesterday for $485 + $40 shipping. Throw in 20 for your dealer to transfer, and your at $545 out the door, not exactly huge money for a gun that won't need anything down the road.

This is kind of what I was thinking...with patience and a little bit of searching I can find something in the 10 series sub $500 with a rebate. I will probably just go with that.
