We had a horrible hunt at our place on Saturday and thankfully a friend invited me and a couple other guys to go try an oxbow at his place Sunday morning. I grew up hunting out there but in the last 4 years they have done a lot of work to the oxbow getting it back in good shape. As you can see the hard work is paying off for them. This is by far the best hunt I've been a part of in SETX. We killed 17 mallards, 4 mottled ducks, and 3 teal for our 4 limits. The icing on the cake was a hen mottled duck lighting in the decoys and seeing the band on her leg before I shot her!

Nice shoot and pics. I always hang my ducks heads up in the straps, easier to carry for me peep

You can see the road we pull the buggy up on behind me in the second picture. We didn't have to walk very far grin I don't have a preference either way as far as hanging them goes but I think the strap pictures turn out much better when they are hung by their feet.

Called in the band info yet? Always cool to see the age and location of banded birds.

If it's old enough to fly, it's old enough to die.

That's awesome!!! I've been at this for 8 seasons now and have yet to shoot a banded bird! Let us know when you get the info! I wonder if she came from one of the coastal refuges... I know they band a bunch down there.

If you stay ready, you don't have to get ready!

I posted the info above. Obviously your best chance of killing a banded duck in Texas would be a mottled duck. I have 2 mottled duck bands and have killed over 100 in my lifetime. I have friends who average about 1 band for every 10 or so mottled ducks. Just like any other band, luck has a lot to do with it. Where I killed this one, they have killed a total of 20 or so mottled ducks this year and this was the 3rd band this year.
