now that deer season is over(at least for me) I am considering retrofitting at least one of my feeders with one of the mechanical feeder plates, and eliminating my current cage, which is working. I see two products, the spin tech, and the eliminator. What experiences have y'all had good and bad.

I've used both and found them to be very reliable.

Eliminator. Have both and have to constantly lubricate the Spintech. Never have lubed the Eliminator.

We use Spintech, but there are (or were) some rabid Eliminator fans on here. But, if your cage allows you access to whatever spinner you have, I wouldn't take it off. Double and triple obstacles for the little bandits are a good thing.

I bought a dozen of these from Academy and put them on ours.>>> Varmint cage

I have both. My spintech plates are in years 4-5. Some have gotten very "sticky" - even with regular lubrication. They will either not return to full closed position, allowing corn to leak out -- or they won't go down as much, limiting the corn thrown.

After using both - I wouldn't buy spintech again (and I haven't).

I run several spintech and they are all 5+ years old with no issues. A little lube on occasion and thats it.

I have 8 spin techs that have been running for 6 plus years. No problems with the plates moving at all.
I did have a timer go out on one and they sent me one the day I called them.
I have only used the 12 volt models.
I like them.
I'm building 3 one ton spin feeders and will be putting then on those for sure.

Thanks fella's, I will try he eliminator which right or wrong looks to be built better. I am doing this because while my 1 X 2" cages have doors to access the timer/cpu I feel they interfere with the corn distribution thus encouraging the hogs to root out under the feeder where most of the corn falls.

Hey Bholt, I moved to Eliminators on the feeders I build a couple years ago as well. Have had good results. You are right, taking the cage off with really cut down on the "dribble" corn directly under the feeder. And, I've found the eliminators help pay for themselves in eliminating corn lost to wind and rain. They are also backed up by the same great warranty service as the Timer, they just replace it no questions asked.

We run 11 spin feeders at my personal lease. 9 have Eliminators, 2 have Spintechs. The spintechs are ok, but they need a little more TLC in the way of lithium grease to stay functional. Overall I think you'll be happy.

Have used eliminator for about 2 years with no problem only occasional lubrication with a PB Blaster lube. Recently it froze up, would not close all the way. I used the white lithium grease spray after cleaning and it works fine now.

Eliminator hands down. If they start sticking up just hit em with a shot of Teflon spray. Done deal.

Got them in the mail the other day (yes I went ahead and ordered two), tested with a spare motor and battery I had in the shop. cant wait to try them out. The only reservation I have is since the plate drops down I can no longer control the amount of corn distributed by the gap between the funnel and plate along with run time. It may not even be an issue, got the rectangular plate version. We'll see.

Any one know how well the Eliminator holds up to black bears. I'm looking to put one on my feeder in OK next time I fill it but am worried about it holding up. They like to rip the cages off the feeders when they can.

No I haven't been using HCR equipment for years on my feeders but seems like G is having issues keeping stuff in inventory. They do build good FCU's though, I really like the company.
