I had to give up on Ace weed trimmer line. It's still my favorite but they went up to $9.00 per 100 feet. I switched to Gray Huskvarna line .105 thickness. 680 feet for $34 dollars. I found these snap swivels at Tackle Town 100 count for r1 bucks. I think the 5 oz claw weights will do the trick.

I just never liked the mono line.

I don't allow mine to get memory. I hang them on the cage of the airboat. Off season they hang in the barn by the loops,on the d ring.

The weed eater string really boils down to preference. The first experience I had with 400 lb mono it was all trashed, had links and all that (not at all the fault of the line). I started looking and found Ave hardware .095 string the best for me. It was cheap and I could buy a big roll.

Fast forward to now. The 4 oz bank sinker weights just didn't cut it hunting the big bay. I also started with 4 foot of line which in the end made them 3.5 foot or so. In 2 foot of water that angle of the line in choppy water made the creeping decoy problem that much worse. I also was not using barrel swivel snaps.

I went to Ace and they have gone ape s*** crazy on there line prices. Lowes had 680 feet of .105 (thicker) line for $34 after tax. So I went with that.

I set up 2 big nails on my work bench and wrapped the line between the nails. When I had 100 wraps I put a wire tie near both ends and then cut the wrapped line at both nails. The wire tie helps keep it from bird nesting. Then my wife and I just made an assembly line. I made these lines 5.5 feet.

With the extra lead and the claw shape and longer lines, I doubt I will have a problem.

Wayne single handedly drove up the price of the Ace line.

Serious question, since you know a helluva lot more than I do. What don't you like about it and what does the weedeater string do for you that you DO like?

I just re-strung my decoys with Magnum braided line because the mono didn't want to stay out of sight in shallower water. It doesn't stay wrapped very well. What I don't like about the braided line is it gets tangled up way more easily when you're carrying decoys on a carabiner.

How do you get the braided line to slide through the decoy after you throw it and the decoy hits the water? I am thinking it would tangle and not slide through.
