We are looking to do a ram hunt with Thompson Temple and just wanted to see if anyone had any feedback. Thanks in advance.

I think you will find some not-so-good reviews about the operation, but I suppose it's all in what kind of hunt you are expecting. I've never been there, but I hear it's the kind of place which gives HF a bad name.

I went for first time last year and had mixed feelings going because the internet is full of goo/bad people/reviews.

He has a large acreage (don't remember number) that is fenced and you can walk for 6 hours without seeing an animal (ask me how I know). He also has maybe 1 acre where you can shoot the rams... So you can make a "real" hunt of it by taking a ride up the hill and walking around or walk 100 yds from camp and see 50 rams in a 1 acre area. To each their own but I truly enjoyed the sunrise and hunt taking a ride to the top of the hill and hunt that area.

Been there done that. Your going to hear "it's what you make of it". I would not call it hunting even with a bow. More like pick an ear tag. They are domesticated goats. Thompson buys them at auction by the trailer load and releases them on the property. Some you just felt sorry for with their nutt sacks hanging so low they can't even walk. Big challenge.

I am waiting for someone to chime in with "great place to began your bow hunting expierence more so with a kid". Right.......................ummmmmmmmmmmmmm no.

Accomidations are filthy, awful, smelly, nasty, mice, mice droppings, sewer smells, rotted corpse smell, I think you get the picture (no exaggeration). If for whatever reason you decide to "hunt" this place camp outside or get a hotel/motel in town.

It's a business and he makes good money at it. But facts are facts. How, why some people choose to go there is beyond me.It's THEIR money though, knock yourself out. He books regular groups yearly and has had them for many years as return hunters. Not much of a hunt and challenge and 3rd World countries have better accomidations.

Best of luck................

Well I missed this one and here you find the "real hunt".

I don't personally care if you like my opinion or not or want to mock it. When did you go to Thompson? I've been told by the groups that return that's the last few years it's improved a good amount for sleeping quarters. For free, they didn't seem that bad in the "cabin". I had a hotel in town but wouldn't of been scared off.

I put "real" in quotes for a reason. You want a gauranteed ram hunt for cheap? Hunt on foot in the large area and it's not simply walking up execution style on a ram. The small enclosure however you could spear hunt the sheep

Large pasture is 1 section. Small pasture is 40 acres.

All the improvements have been by the groups, the groups paid for the materials and donated the labor, not Thompson. Thompson did move the gut pile as least further from camp. That's small pen is not 40 ac I have been on every foot of it, it's small.

I would guess the small pen to be closer to an acre

I've hunted with Thompson twice, and the way I look at it is you get what you pay for. I brought my 7 yo nephew from California there, he had never been hunting, camping, or even shot a gun before and he loved it. If you are looking for a big nice lodge or state of the art blinds, his may not be the place for you, but if you are looking for a affordable hunt and a good time sitting around the fire you should be fine. Good Luck!

I'll be going for the first time in April.
Would it be wise to bring a four wheeler, UTV, or Jeep to get around the larger place and get up the hill?

Both times I was there he took us to the blinds, or we walked to the ones behind the camp by the high fence.

Shame......as much money as that place generates on goats it could be decent all the way around and not be funded by the hunters doing the work and/or funding it.

The pen is like a carnival shooting gallery. Very small. The time we went 2 of the "guides" went on the hill like Jack and Jill to get the black buck to move for the hunter to have a shot, true story. One BB had broken a horn and Thompson offered a deal of 1600 and he had another horn he would give the "hunter" to complete the set for the trophy mount.

Hwy_Man pulled a dead goat out of his blind, true story. The goats I had were alive and I had to escort one out of the so called blind. Enjoy..................

I went 3 times probably 15 years ago.. 3 different times, 3 different rams.. we hunted from blinds a few times and still hunted and yes if you still hunt you can walk a LOT and it is pretty rough country in the back of his place.. but we had a great time, no complaints from our trip.. I would go back for sure..
