Interesting. Too bad they didn't make it in 458 socom! But I know why they didn't.

Yeah, I'd rather see a 458... so I don't have to buy a different caliber.

It is far more important to be able to hit the target than it is to haggle over who makes a weapon or who pulls a trigger.

I would be interested in .450 Marlin, it will work in a short action and has more horsepower.

Mannlicher-Schönauer makes a bolt rifle in .450 Marlin, it is a bit pricey though.

Like the idea but probably not something I'll ever buy.

No SAAMI on the 458 so the big companies won't touch it.

Ya reckon the rim on the .45-70 might make it impractical, if not impossible?

Pretty cool. I'd probably end up with an 1895 Marlin in 45-70 though.

Can you explain?

Intriguing and glad to see the innovation happening like this. Wish they would chamber the American series in .357 and 44 mags like the M77 series. They would sell like crazy.

Tempted by this as it is.

Rim on 45-70 makes it more difficult but not impossible. 303 Brit is rimmed and run in bolt action enfields...

It can and has been done on rimmed cartridges like
220 Swift, .303 British, and .225 Winchester, but it can be troublesome. The .45-70 has a very large rim, too.

I still have 3 of the Savage M340 in 30-30 and sold a .225 years ago, so I didn't understand why a 45/70 would make any difference and Remington 788 was made in 30-30 along with Winchester 54. Just couldn't see what I was missing.

I can verify that ! Never had one do anything except go straight down after a good shoulder hit with the Bushmaster. My AR is topped with a Nikon slug scope which makes the BDC reticle almost spot on with the .450 cartridge. It's a good combination for hogs.

Well, I guess you're right...it just doesn't seem "right" to me. Now that you mention it, there were some magazine fed Mauser-type actions (Siamese Mauser) designed for or adapted to the .45-70...I had forgotten all about that (it could be "the poor man's .458 Mag) which is odd (but maybe NOT! nuts ) because at one time I thought it was a pretty intriguing thing. I DO think that some actions are probably better suited for such conversions than some others are. With such a large diameter rim, it seems to me that you'd have to use a CRF action like a M70 or 98 Mauser.

I looked locally for the ammo and Hornady has it for about $30/box so its not overly expensive to shoot. I look forward to seeing one.

It will be interesting to see what people think. The sectional density of these bullets leave a little to be desired. No doubt it will work well on deer and hogs but not sure how it would work on larger game.
