I have been duck hunting now for 5 years, and have yet to kill one of the ducks on my hit list.... The Wood Duck. Does anyone have an recommendations for a good wood duck hunt in the Houston area? Willing to travel a little bit, but not quite to Dallas.

Anything will help. Thanks!!

Wood ducks are funny creatures. For me, most of the time if we kill woodies it's real early (between legal light and sunrise). Sometimes when there aren't any big ducks during early season we will set up on a roost in the evening time, but even then it's fast and furious shooting in a 30 minute window. Best bet would be to go to the backs of creeks, or real skinny water. The main key is to hunt where there are trees or tall brush in or near the water. They like the comfort of hearing things before they see them. Also, don't mind calling, either they're coming or they aren't. I bought a Duck Commander wood duck call (best on the market in my opinion) and have gotten lucky enough to turn a few of the larger groups, but for the most part you have to be where they want to be or shoot them in passing.

Capt Kendrick of Ruffling Feathers can put you on a good wood duck hunt. I'm headed to the Lake Livingston area next weekend for a wood duck hunt with him in fact.

Yeah the Livingston area usually is thick with the wood duck.
