What's the average antler size in your area? 90-110? What part?

I think he's older than 3.5.

It's my friends HF ranch in Dimmit county. I'd guess the average mature trophy around the 160 class

The deer is no older than 3.5. The 4th tooth in the first pic is abnormal, possibly due to breakage or abscess. This is further verified by looking at the other side, which has normal wear. Dentine is very thin across the board and none of the teeth display the wear characteristic of an older deer. You could easily make an argument for 2.5 even.

No matter the age it was a good kill. He was not going to reach 160.

are we looking at the same pic, 4th tooth shows wide dentine, that makes him 3.5 at minimum 5th tooth looks wide on one cusp and thin on the other, i say 4.5

This is the expression of dentine/wear that you'd expect on a 4.5 year old deer. On the deer on the OP, the only tooth that arguably is as wide as the enamel is the 4th tooth. Something was wrong with the 4th tooth is the first pic, causing irregular wear, so you need to use the 'good' side for aging. On that side, the only real argument is if the dentine on the 4th tooth is wide enough to be considered 3.5. If you say it is wide enough, then 3.5. If you say it is not wide enough, then 2.5. Me personally, I'd say 2.5 years old, and this is more or less verified by the antler and body size of the actual deer. But, I wouldn't argue too much if somebody wanted to call the deer 3.5. He's no older than that though.

Hard to tell from just from pic,but I think 6.5 is about right.

I shot a mature deer down there in Dimmit and the taxidermist many use on here said he didn't look older than 2.5 based on tooth wear. He was aged in field 5.5 plus and a big deer around 200 lbs. Teeth don't tell the whole story. This was no feeding LF place.
