Thanks, dee. I didn't mean to imply that you aren't storing your powder properly. My comment was aimed at my own obsession with moisture, although I had never thought about solvent content. Maybe the "wet powder" issue isn't worth worrying about.

IMR4451 seems to have some good reviews so far. It could replace my 30-year love affair with IMR4350.

No worries. It's by far more temp stable than imr 4350 but unless you're after the utmost in consistency like we are in long range type shooting it might not be worth the effort to develop a new load.

After you shoot 50-60 rounds of IMR4451 you'll see a definite difference in the fouling compared to IMR4350 or H4350. Cleanup was much easier in my rifle.

Worth the change? Maybe. I started fooling with IMR4451 when H4350 became so difficult to obtain. After the initial testing I bought 24# of it. So I guess I'll be shooting it for a while. blush

Yep, manuals are conservative at times. And every chamber is different. Reloaders should start 2-3 grains below published max and work up slowly. My best accuracy may not hit paper in your gun.

FWIW, I found my best accuracy below published max, and I found concerning pressure signs at .5 over published max. That was with the 6.5 Creedmoor. Unlike H4350, as some Creedmoor shooters have pushed it into another accuracy node that was considerably over what Hodgdon published as a max load. I didn't find that to be true with IMR4451. Hope that helps.

Buzzsaw, what cartridge are you considering loading 4451 for?
