This is a first for the ranch, we've never had Pelicans on the lake before and the Snipe are back.

We got Pelican's every December in the RGV, those suckers can eat some fish. Especially when you get 25-30 in a small lake.

It has been a real long time since I saw a pelican that far inland. They must have gotten lost or fell a sleep while flying.

Years ago when I had to do allot of traveling I'd see them on the Salina's between Big Spring and Stanton and another area just south east of Midland. Always had to catch the morning flights and they were pretty active about then.

New Years Day I was at a wolf chase at Iowa Park. The lake there had easily 150-200 on it.

Amazing bird, the pelican.
It's beak can hold more than it's belly can.

Have been seeing them in Longview on the cooling water lakes where I work.
Like Nathan said, time for a Snipe hunt.

Those "snipe" get me all the time. Especially early in the morning when a big group drops low over the water like Teal do. They fly just like a group of Teal and at first glance startle me every time

D.C. Just come over to Hubbard Creek and look. We have a bunch of them every winter.
