I headed up to the camp today to work off some of those holiday calories and to see if I could find any ruff grouse. Managed 6 miles on the snowshoes before I packed it in. 4 miles was on trails that I had broken during the last few days of deer season and 2 miles was virgin powder. Spent a total of about 4.5 hours in the bush and flushed 4 ruffies. I managed to connect on 2 of them, misfire on one of them and no shot taken on the fourth. I wear a fall arrest harness with the toboggan lead attached to the centre of my back. Lets me carry and use the shotgun while I am towing my gear. I typically bring a lot more gear than I ever use but going solo with no cell signal and being a long way from the road I like to be prepared to spend a night in the bush if things somehow go south.
