Right. I have a landowner that refers to big hogs and bucks as toads, big fish as hogs, etc. I get the impression that 'toad' means well filled out, spread, or "swole."

It is just an idiom, sort of like big swords being called "pigs." Big swords in no way resemble pigs. Not all idioms are exact or directly representative.

Idioms are slang that I try never to use. Pronghorn antelope are not goats! (Almost never, but I have slipped not often but when it happens I feel a bit stupid.)

Let's go ahead and define it for all forum members so we have a standard going forward. That way we can poke fun at the guys that misuse it on non-toad worthy game.

Let's set the bar at 8.3 lbs or larger for bass, and net score of 152 B&C for white tail bucks.

but what if it's a small bodied hill country buck with a big rack is that still a toad?

It could be a 'qualified' toad. I.E. - "that be a toad of a buck for the hill country" up

This is a toad. The Wolfhound X on that pig weighs almost 100 lbs.

TOAD.

Scaled close to 450 lbs, that's a toad.
