I've used BCSC's for many years on different scopes with no issues.
In the last year or so however, newer Scope Covers (flip up) have either had the tabs break off, the hinge snap (or both) on three different covers.
Are they using cheaper plastic these days?
I am always very careful with my equipment and the covers have never been bumped, stressed or abused.
Its as if the plastic has become brittle or weak. These scopes/rifles when not in use are kept 'cased' and in a climate controlled environment.
Just ordered some replacements, but if these do the same thing....then I am going to look elsewhere of scope covers. I don't expect them to last forever....but I do expect them last more than a few outings.
Anyone else experienced the same?
Flint.

Someone bought them out and the current versions are about on par with disposable paper towels for durability.
I broke down and spent the high cost for Aadmount scope covers, which come with a lifetime replacement guarantee and have been satisfied with the product.
Very well made. Have yet to have any issue with them after two seasons on my main two rifles.
The other option is rubber "bikini covers," which are cheap and work fine, but are not as convenient.

HOLY CRAP !
I can buy 4 sets of Butler Creek caps and keep them for backups for that kind of money.

might consider these, https://scopeshieldcover.com/.I have one on my rifle and I will use them from now on, worked great in Colorado the last 2 years and protects mos of the scope rather then just the lenses.

I've not had many problems with Butler Creek flip up covers in the past. I have used them for many years, but I am greatly disappointed in the ones I have purchased recently. I would have no complaints...if I had bumped them or abused them in any way...but these things are breaking just opening them. Definitely want to stay with a 'flip up' style cover. Guess I will need to look beyond B/C for a reliable product. Thanks for your reply. Flint

Bought some in early November and have used on three hunts. I can tell the quality is not on par with previous models I have used.

I've had BC caps, tenabraex caps, and the new Vortex Defender caps. Both the Tenabraex and Defender caps are well worth the money. The tenabraex are beefier; the Defenders are lower profile. Bother are excellent.

Saw today academy is clearing out the butler creek caps for $5 apiece. I never cared for the flip up style caps. Always seemed to get in the way if your walking and stalking. Just thought id pass the deal along.

Just thought id pass the deal along. Midway also has them on sale for $4.99 Gotta wonder if they are being re-designed or being discontinued altogether.

I did know that they had been bought out as I had to call them past summer for sizing help. They weren't very helpful or knowledgeable. I have also noticed some quality issues on those that I have recently purchased. This is very depressing because where I am it is very dusty, often, and I need good covers. I must have a zillion of these covers. I am kinda puzzled on how you can ruin a carbon filled polyolefin molded part by going to cheaper raw materials. Maybe they are using recycled plastics. These things should last forever if made from virgin poly ethylene. They gotta be making an insane profit on these at about $8 a set. There's more technology and resin in a pop bottle, that you throw away.

The Vortex Defender caps have me now. Like their glass it's no fault lifetime so while not the least expensive of the choices it should be the last set you ever pay for. Mine seem to be indestructible.

I break a set everytime I go into the field (7 day hunts). I would like to try the vortex ones but haven't seen those yet. I have broken down and bought a few sets of the alumina Leupold covers and they are bulletproof but expensive. At least they don't fall off or the lens cover is missing after a walk in the brush.

The new ones are junk. Trying to convince myself to get Aadamounts, just not ready to drop that much coin on several scopes.
Are you going to pull those pistols, or whistle Dixie?
