Greetings,
In the past, I have tried various flash hider, muzzle brakes and combos of both.

Fast forward to now....
I built a new 6.8 upper and installed a Troy Claymore compensator.
The muzzle flash in the night vision is pretty bad and white screens it for what seems like a second or second and a half.
The bloom has never been this bad in the past, even with target crown barrels on my other 6.8.
I am using a Pulsar N750A and Photon 5X digital night vision.

What brake/flash hider/compensator, etc. do you guys use to suppress the flash so the night vision recovers faster?

I use the same muzzle device on my 6.8 SBR. I e just learned to be on my toes and ready for follow up shots as soon as I can see again.

Try any true flash hider, most comp's tend to make flash even worse. The Troy Claymore is about the worst offender, AAC Blackout/Vortex works really well.

Flash hider Test

Get a suppressor!

Fast paced gregarious society forgets the healing power of solitude. It's worked thousands of years. Casting a line/gazing into a campfire/sitting in a blind after a long week is medicine for the soul. The serenity and peacefulness of it all is majestic.

Get a Smith Enterprises Vortex flash hider. All you will see is a tiny flash. It basically eliminates all the flash. Check out this video on it. They have it on the end of the video. I have one on my 7.62x39 AR that has my other N/V scope on it and it works great. There are also a bunch of videos on youtube showing people shooting with them.

Flash hider Test

Thanks for the link....I have a 5/8" A2 I will swap on.
I have used that and the CMMG Vortex in the past.
Don't care for anything AAC.

I used the Claymore at night for the first time on Monday and it was BRIGHT!!!
I will install the Claymore on my 223 Wylde day gun with ARP barrel since it has 5/8" threads also.

My wife has a Troy Claymore on one of her AR's and that is just a range gun or for shooting an intruder and cooking them all at the same time lol.

Great info on that Smith flash hider, bowbuilder. I use a suppressor, so I don't have a flash issue when using NV, but several of my friends have the same problem as Vern 1, so THANK YOU!

I swapped the Claymore for an A2 I had laying around.
Waiting on Nephew to get here to go out tonight.
Hopefully I can test it in a couple of hours.
Nephew is here....I'm out!!

It's hard to eliminate all the particulate matter that causes you to be blinded for a short bit with night vision. I turned the flash hider upside down on my Franklin and it didn't seem to help much at all as everything is hot and still wants to rise in front of your scope.

Move side to side if you can shoot on the run.

They make ammo specifically for hunting for a reason! nidea

That's why I switched from NV to Thermal. It's almost impossible, I found, to reacquire and track a hog for a quick second shot with rifle based illumination.

I used some 12v LED IR Floodlights to light up my arena which helped. All you need to do is drop them with the first shot, but what fun is that... elmer

Greetings,
The A2 did the trick.
Follow-up shots will be much quicker as the flash bloom is hardly noticeable and the N750A recovers much, much faster.
Thanks again to glocker17 for the comparison link.

Edit:
The flash hider I am using is an A1, not an A2.
The A1 is supposed to be a little better at flash hiding than the A2.
The A1 has 6 slots and they are spread around the entire flash hider.
The A2 doesn't have slots on bottom to help stop muzzle rise and keep from kicking up dust when in a prone shooting position.

I moved my IR's (yes I 2 on my ar) to the hand rails as far up as I could on each side. I also used mounts where the IR's are below the barrel so the smoke is above the IR's and I don't get blinded by the light reflecting off the smoke. I also don't use the traditional flash hider, I found out it is better with one without holes so everything goes forward, not up.

Could a person take an A2 and weld up the ports on top for the bottom ports escape the gases/smoke?

I think I would try black tape first. Tape it up then cut slots as needed.

I am using an A1 with ports all the way around.
An A2 is solid on one side, with the solid part usually installed on bottom.
If you have an A2, just put it on the barrel the solid part on top.

The flash with the A1 is so minimal and the DigiSight recovers so fast now, there is no need for me to do that.
