First "big game" I've killed. I know a jake isn't much but it was a nice first victory. 40 yard shot, free handed and the 1st with my rifle.

Awesome. Congrats on the harvest and welcome to Turkey hunting. Just thought you might wanna know, that sir looks like a hen. Not trying to knock the harvest at all. I eat sleep and breathe Turkey hunting and love to help out where I can. A Jake this time of year should have longer tail feathers with a few being shorter or longer than the others and a little more red on his head, beard likely not poking through the feathers yet but close and alot darker black of a body. A perfectly round short feathered tail fan and that solid blue head with a grey tint to her feathers tells the bird appears to be female. Though some hens do have beards so I could see if there may have been a confusion if that bird was bearded. From the looks of the tail though she was a few years old and any harvest is a great first harvest. When you are putting it on the table there is no such thing as a trophy. Make sure you get out this spring and chase em when they are coming to the calls. You will be hooked like a fish. Congrats again bud
